That “wouldn’t adapt” part makes hiring him a big NO for me, especially when the Seattle coach told him to run the ball but Grubb refused.

I’m not a three yards and a cloud of dust absolutist about running the ball like some are here, I like a balanced offense with multiple weapons, but that bolls down to if your boss tells you to do something, the expectation is that you are gonna do it, and if you can’t do it you need to look for another job.

I do like a balanced offense too. Hate the fact that we had a bunch of weapons at running back that were not utilized this year

The big problem with the Grubb rumors is we don't know the nature of what was going on there. Frankly, their OL was so bad that throwing all the time probably wasn't the worst strategy. If running is just going to put you in 2nd or 3rd and long, you might as well lean throw and try to get chunk yards.

DeBoer has already coached extensively with Grubb, He probably doesn't need to look at Grubb's NFL experience to judge his performance as a college OC.

One consistent gripe I noticed in the stuff I checked out was that Grubb’s play calling supposedly was too predictable for the NFL, that pro defenses quickly figured out his schemes and tells in a way college defenses can’t.

Grubb is an elite college OC. Deboer isn't dumb and neither is Grubb. Deboer has to realize he can't lose 3-4 games a year here especially to teams when you are a 17 point favorite and expect to stay. He makes 10 million a year and I doubt he wants that train to end. Grubb also has to know that he can become a head coach probably very easily with a good year to two at Bama. If successful enough he could land a quality head coach job within a year or two.

Let's not forget, Sheridan didn't do milroe any favors at times with play calling when he was already struggling. There were times Sheridan seemed to leave the box up there

I think I said in this thread or another one that Grubb absolutely needs to be back in college ball. We’ll have to see if it’s in Tuscaloosa.

NFL coordinators get scapegoated all the time. Nick Saban tried to hire Grubb, was Grubb trash then?

Wasn’t the issue that Seattle couldn’t run it in the first place? Even with the massive amount of passes and defense playing the pass, Charbonnet and KW3 averaged 3.96 YPC

So the coach basically said “yeah it’s not working but force it anyway”

I went watch the Seahawks play the Cardinals here in AZ, I even noticed there no holes for the RB's. They were actually decent running, but it was all RB's making plays.

Ok but if I hire a plumber and he doesn’t want to wire a breaker box is that on him or me for hiring the wrong guy?

Grubb is a DeBoer disciple and both of them run pass heavy offenses. You don’t hire him to run the Les Miles offense.

I’d also like to know what kind of autonomy Grubb was promised when he was hired as well.

I think Grubb coming to Alabama is a pipe dream. We don't currently have an opening and my guess is we stick with Sheridan.

Is there any other assistant who has ever been rumored to be coming to Bama for 4 straight cycles?

Maybe Pruitt?

Lol if you have the chance, it's a no brainer to take Grubb over Sheridan.

Yep, it's a no brainer, but you can't pick from options you don't have, and as of now Grubb isn't an option.

As long as he remains unemployed (to anyone's public knowledge), he's an option for anyone wanting to hire him. That is, assuming he actually wants to continue being employed.

Not if the guy doesn't want to be here. He already left one time because he didn't want to leave Washington and hot internet rumor is his wife REALLY didn't want to be in Tuscaloosa. I don't think the guy is an option for us.
