During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, Georgia's Kirby Smart explained how the new 12-team College Football Playoff format has changed how the Top 25 rankings are perceived.

Kirby Smart also said he's not too concerned with the rankings yet. Per On3:
quote:

“You’re going to look a little further down,” Kirby Smart said. “You would look at 12 last year and figure does the 12th team have a shot to get to the 4th? What’s got to happen for those teams to lose? Now, you’re looking at 20, you know, 21, 22, the automatic qualifier, who’s got the best shot, and how are they going to perceive these teams, and what’s going to change the perception? That’s all the talk out there.”

“I could care less because what is a quality win and a quality loss right now, they’ve been known to change their mind before it comes time,” Smart said. “And, you know, we’ve probably been a casualty of that probably more than anybody in the country, so I don’t put a lot of stake in it.”

With Oregon at #1, there is no doubt this poll is skewed for marketing purposes. There is no way Oregon should even be in the Top 20. Army would destroy the Ducks.

I am getting tired of Kirby talking like this.

Like it or not, he’s not too far off base.
