Yeah, Beck played a lot like last year. Drops dimes, can zip the ball in with the best of them, sees the field real well, but does not always convert on third down like you would like, lots of passes batted down, and an occasional head-scratcher type pass. Looked good, but not like a Heisman favorite.

I thought Beck looked like a Heisman favorite last year and not worried about what he did in today's scrimmage. In 2023, Georgia's offense led the nation in 3rd down conversion percentage. They were 2nd in the nation in 1st downs per game. Brian Fremeau's analytics had them 3rd in offensive points per drive (non-garbage drives), 3rd in offensive available yards percentage, 6th in offensive yards per play.

Carson was 4th in the nation in completion percentage (3rd among P5 qb's). He was tied for 6th in the nation in yards/attempt (5th in P5). He was 8th in passer rating (7th in P5), right behind Caleb Williams. And he was a 1st year starter in the SEC, which has the best defensive talent in the country. Every quarterback in the SEC has down days and occasional bad passses.

I wonder if sitting pug is a recruitment strategy to not spook any qb's he wants in the portal

I read he was using a crutch to walk on the sideline.

It’s been stated by several sources that he banged up his knee midway through spring and has been limited since. Kirby is concerned about getting a QB to be the emergency guy this year. You saw it today. You can’t let Beck and Stockton injuries (hypothetical obviously)wreck this Ferrari

Not gonna lie, we look really good on both sides

My first spring game where I was impressed with all facets of the game and depth

Listening to Brooks Austin now, said hairline fracture in the knee area. I was not aware of this prior, because I don't subscribe to patreon but according to Brooks if I had subscribed I would have already known this.

Kirby had mentioned it in several of the post practice interviews this spring.

So, same as last year.

One thing I'd like to see the offense do better in the second half is convert first downs in or near the red zone. We move the ball all over the field and then the defense bogs the offense down when it counts.

Lol, this is an educational post. Until just now I thought that the only criticism that any Dawg fans of Carson Beck is that he needs to be better on his deep balls this season. This "offense bogged down" stuff is news to me.

We averaged 40 points per game, led the conference in touchdown runs and probably led the nation in little peckershit touchdown runs from around the goal line. It's just random and it's how our drives worked out last season.

We still weren’t what I would call “great” on the deep ball last year. It was more of a methodical 3rd down conversion type offense that made it run.

The offense will be very good. The defense is the biggest surprise to me. They looked vintage Kirby today. Hopefully this is what we are this year. If so, it’s gonna be very difficult to beat us.

Encouraging signs from the defense. I felt like last year our LB core wasnt as strong as it needed to be and the Dline didn't generate enough pressure. I feel like this year - These young guys are really turning a corner and this years defense is going to be great. Really excited to see what Mccloud , Bolden , and E Rob can add to an already very good unit. So much speed added to the team. Could be an exciting year. Not expecting to go undefeated but I do expect this to be a great defense. Not having Ladd / Brock on offense was noticeable today.

FWIW, I wasn't talking about last season. I was talking about the G Day game. In the first half, I thought that both offenses were getting bogged down by both defenses when the offense got in the red zone.

Wasn't meant to be a commentary on last season, just the first half of the G Day game.

True, and it's kind of interesting to watch Beck try to find his new go-to receivers.

I'm getting the sense that Lovett and Bell will be it.

Lovett looked sleeker and faster yesterday. Looked heavier last season than he was at Missouri.

Anyone got a link to a good solid replay? I can seem to only find highlights.

Uncle Lou roasts Dean Legge on his G-Day take.

This is worth a good chuckle.

I think Uncle Lou went a little overboard on what looked like a throw-away comment from Legge, but he's not wrong.
