Sorry folks yalls surrounding town is probably nicer but the only schools in the SEC IMO that can compete with us are auburn and Georgia. Our campus is beautiful.

Thank you so much for your kind assessment. We are very proud of our campus and strive to improve it. Most people who bang on State have never been there or have not been there in a long time,

Maybe it was just that it was the very beginning of Spring and it was also a nice day. I don't know. I was just really impressed.

And, I was a huge critic of State and Starkville when I was in school there. No Maroon and White glasses here. Just saying what I saw.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I graduated in '92 and the improvements since then are unbelievable. I actually get pissed that it wasn't as nice as it is now when I went to school there.

That was my favorite spot on campus, especially early fall and mid Spring. I'd usually go there for lunch or just to kill time between classes.

I thought Mississippi State's campus was really nice. Was a lot better than I was expecting.

Arkansas doesn't landscape a whole lot. Its a different approach. I think the campus is more "Big 10" looking than old antebellum south.

The style of the older buildings tends to be more in line with northern and eastern schools, too. Lots of limestone, gothic influences...

Very "collegiate" looking, IMO.

Arkansas has a little of everything, literally. Reference my pictures and yours It's a mash of the South meshed with Big10.

Honestly, this is what makes it so awesome along with the incredible views of the hills.

Alabama's campus is very pretty but it's the same damn building one after another and that gets old quickly.

Its a matter of locale. Its not as sweltering up in the Ozarks in the summer, so there wasn't the same necessity of porches, and air flow and that led to different designs being favored.

Old Main and most of the rest of the campus core are distinctly different styles, but the limestone and red brick compliment each other well. Walking near Old Main is a very "grand" kind of awesome feeling, because its towers are 7-stories tall, and it sits at the crest of a hill, so it towers over the campus and city.

I think Alabama's campus is beautfiul, too, though.

I think a better comparison is UCA. I think in some ways that is a beautiful campus, but every building is identical in style, Georgian architecture, red brick. It is good in some ways, but boring in another way.

But this building will always feel like college to me.

Yeah, but that many ongoing projects is a Geo-technical/Structural Engineer's wet dream.

I guess it's a matter of preference. The planners took care to make sure all the new additions matched the old buildings. UA's master plan has every detail covered, from what shade of brick to what type of columns can be used.

It's called Greek Revival architecture. It was modeled after the University of Virginia.

Exactly, you know who else has this exact setup in the SEC?

They haven't done a very good job on the campus from my personal experience attending a game there..... Tennessee.

You'd think for a University from 1794 would have amazing things, wrong. It's concrete jungle in those other hills.

However, our sorority houses are beautiful and to this day are still some of the best in the entire south. Porches, balconies and traditional greek style all with lawns.

Then......

Boom back to Gothic, ha ha.

I know what it's called as basically everything came from VA and before that it was Europe.

I prefer pockets on campus of different buildings it lets the creativity juices flow.

Alabama's became way to redundant after a while. Still pretty though I never said it wasn't.

And I think Arkansas' campus looks like something out of Soviet Russia. To each their own.
