I’m sure Auburn will be so sad to not get Kirby-stomped every season.

he entire SEC West has no sympathy for you, especially LSU that has not only had to play them, but Florida our permanent opponent, oh and lets throw in Georgia on rotation on top of that...

I can understand being upset about that schedule, when you can't even beat us

I really thought that the teams that would not want the 9 schedule would be Georgia, Florida , and South Carolina. Because of their non-conference in-state rival game they play each year. I also thought South Carolina has some state law that makes them play another in-state game, which doesn’t give them much in scheduling after that.

Take a look at Week 1 of this upcoming season. Its the weakest tv schedule Ive seen in years. LSU/FSU is the only game worth watching. The networks aren’t giving out billion dollar contracts for this shite anymore. The best programs need to be playing each other weekly.

Week 1 has plenty of good games:
Florida at Utah (Thursday, Aug. 31)
West Virginia at Penn State
Virginia v. Tennessee (Nashville)
UTSA at Houston
Boise State at Washington
Coastal Carolina at UCLA
Colorado at TCU
North Carolina v. South Carolina (Charlotte)
LSU v. Florida State (Orlando)

If your attention span is so short that you have to see, say, Notre Dame play Michigan to have any interest, you might want to become an NFL fan. Because in college football, no team plays blockbluster matchup after blockbluster matchup.

I say this as a fan of the nine-game conference schedule.

I wonder how feasible it would be for the SEC to control their own destiny in 2034 by packaging and selling streaming rights directly instead of through an ESPN or Fox? Would the cost be too prohibitive to really consider this option? I am pretty ignorant as to the cost here, but is it really that costly to put together a streaming platform, hire some commentators, and negotiate your app onto Roku, AppleTV, etc.?

UF @ Utah isn't worth watching?

Sure, on a freaking Thursday night. There isn't shite to watch on opening Saturday this year.

Teams that want 9 games
Georgia because of Auburn
Auburn because of Georgia game
Arkansas because they want Texas game
LSU because they want Ole Miss & Alabama
Texas for the A&M and Arkansas game
Missouri they want Oklahoma game
Ole Miss wants the LSU game.

A&M if they want the Texas game.. but they could be a no. If so, switch with Oklahoma.

Who is in the wrong bucket?
Pretty sure that A&M wants 9. Fisher publicly stated who our 3 permanent opponents would be at media days last July, then the AD confirmed that. And none of that came in the context of complaining about who the 3 would be (see Nick Saban, suddenly going from 9 game proponent to opponent when he saw who the SEC was giving Bama for its 3).

Teams that play at least 2 P5 OOC annually now:

UF
UGA

The rest of y'all need to step up.

But ESPN wont budge. They dont need 9 games to make a ton of money off the cheap deal they signed with us compared to what the B10 got. It’s similar to the scenario the SEC was stuck in with CBS. We tried everything to get them to renegotiate that contract and they didn’t wink because the money was so good no matter what else we could offer them.
I've been saying this for months. The SEC has almost no leverage with ESPN on this matter. The SEC locked itself into a long term deal with ESPN a decade ago for everything but Tier 1, then gave them Tier 1 without addressing this issue (Sankey did get the pro rata deal included, but didn't have the foresight, or maybe not the leverage, to get a 9 game sweetener at that time).

I can't tell you how many times people have just blithely assumed that the SEC had the ability to reopen negotiations or sell their rights to someone else because of either expansion or going to 9 games. Turns out, it doesn't work that way.

This is what I was telling you folks months ago after I spoke with an employee of the SEC who is there every day.

NOBODY has agreed on a scheduling format. Dellenger reported reported like one of 8 different scenarios that are on the table and ran with that one. As this person told me "nobody is on the same page and we haven't been since the expansion"

NOT ALL want a nine game schedule. Several Presidents and AD's want to stay at 8 games. There are also presidents and AD's that WANT TO KEEP divisions. Not pods but 8 team divisions.

It's also not just UK, Vandy and MSU that want to keep some things the way they are. I was told "we may be further away from scheduling, perm opponents and rotation than we were a year ago" and that Destin was going to be "very tense".

Just stay at 8 games for now then. That also allows the permanent cross divisional games (Bama/Vols, Aub/UGA, Gates/LSU, etc) to stay in place.

Basically the Kentucky, MSU, and Vandys of the SEC want to keep their extra rent a win so they can keep fans happy with a 7-5 or 8-4 record without needing to win a majority of their SEC games.

The upper tier SEC teams benefitted from that plan too because it always keeps those teams ranked 20-25 for another "ranked" win. 4-0 against dogshit OOC teams, .500 in the in conference and get that 8-4 ranked #23 chest out season.

This article basically says what everyone already knows. The only thing I got out of it was that the Spring Meetings start on May 30th.

I hope we stay at 8 games for a number of reasons. If we switch to 9, ESPN should make it worth our while.

I hope we stay at 8 too unless the rest of the SEC starts playing 2 P5 OOC annually.
