Good luck to all the athletes!
As a pokey lollygagger myself, my respect for people who can run fast is particularly immense.

I can confirm. I ran Florida Relays in 94. Not much shade and we didn't have a tent.

I don't know why our athletic dept seeks to punish fans. We bitched for years, no decades for shade on the baseball stands, and it still isn't enough. The Ring tennis complex got shade after 40 years and it might cover half the stands. Also if you are ever at a day game at the Swamp, check out the "Sunshine Seats" in the South endzone. You will feel like you are being roasted over a fire. It's crazy.

I always joke that I should've chosen an indoor sport to play/coach!

Track season always starts our cold and windy and ends hotter than hell!

Arkansas men are chasing SEC title #50 since 1992 in T&F (22 outdoor & 27 indoor)

Arkansas women are chasing SEC title #25 since 1992 in T&F (10 outdoor & 14 indoor)

That's kind of crazy. Especially the men.

I met a guy once who had won the 1500/mile at the Florida relays once. He had a Florida Relays clock in on his shelf.

Said that they gave them clock a clock for winning.

Thought that was kind of interesting.

Well that wasn't me

I do have a Florida Relays trophy for a 4x mile relay somebody won at Auburn a few years before me that I "acquired" from the team room. It was just a plaque.

They need to completely rebuild the grandstand. It's the most successful sport on campus right now, wouldn't cost all that much.

Per the Caw, all of the money is going towards the kitchen at the Swamp

This has me conflicted because I have fair skin, so I like shade, but I am also fat, and that kitchen idea sounds pretty good too.

For my fellow track geeks, especially the distance guys, I assume you’ve read Once A Runner by John L. Parker. It’s a fictional but basically autobiographical novel about the Florida Gator track program in the 60s, portrayed in the book as Southeastern University.

Has composite characters based on Frank Shorter, Kiwi John Walker, the first man to break 3:50 in the mile, and others of the era. The author’s character does a workout of sixty 440s (modern day 400m). Of course that’s insane and not advisable, but it’s pretty entertaining for those of us who have done a brutal interval workout. It’s a fun book if you’re a running/track geek but any sports fan would appreciate it, I think.
