Y'all... Just cause you got money and male cheerleaders, doesn't mean tier 1 coaches want to come there. Right now, y'all just need someone that can bring some stability.

They need someone who genuinely wants to make A&M a national champion as their ultimate goal.

I don't think they have had a coach who had that as their ultimate goal since Slocam.

Not to defend A&M but this is hilariously wrong. Coaches don’t give a shite about “winning tradition”. They care about how much they’re getting paid and what resources they have. And A&M is top 10 in the nation in money and facilities.

I'm going to say this again. Alabama fans should really be nicer to A&M fans with the way they suck up to ya'll on this board. They really want your approval. It's sweet.

Like a position coach who loses five games a year?

Great take - let’s take a look at recent coaches’ jobs before A&M.

1. Florida State
2. University of Houston
3. Houston Texans
4. Alabama

None of those are worth a damn.

Careful, OP, or A&M may steal your coach again.

I'm kidding and also agree. The safe route worked with Sherman until it didn't in 2011, but he set things up very nicely for the next guy which was basically the goal all along. What's different is A&M doesn't have to fully rebuild this time.

The last two hires have been a big name, natty-winning coach and another who came from C-USA. Find someone in the middle from a Power 5 conference school or go outside the box with Campbell if you can somehow convince him to come home.

The pressure on the next A&M coach will be extreme. There is no rebuilding. You have no time. If year 2 they are still going 8-4 then will it be time to fire the coach?

No coach wants to do with that.

How can someone "come there"?

They can buy good players, they need a guy who can develop them and formulate a quality offensive and defensive identity. It’s that simple.

Of course coaches want to go there. The difference is, they want to go there to get paid, not necessarily because they think they'll win.

Jimbo Fisher is living the American dream right now. Due $19 million in the next 60 days + $7.5 million per year every year until the early 2030s.

And he's getting paid all of that money to NOT work

Haven't read the posts above mine, but A&M can absolutely be a top dog in the SEC.

It was not Jonny Manziel that made their team but their Offensive Line. He got the credit but that O'line was great.

Coach Bryant was their coach for a while. Coach Stallings beat Coach Bryant although his overall record was not very good.

Neither took them to the top for long, but A&M has a long tradition. LSU is a hated rival and has been for many years, and A&M whips them more than LSU fans want to admit.

No reason A&M can't break the glass ceiling that UGA smashed after a few coaches, especially now that NIL is in play. They have the best facilities and plenty of money.

Can they do it? I dunno. I'm a Bama fan and it's hell trying to stay at the top.

I said Texas A&M need to get someone just started having success. It worked for KSU, Kansas, Oregon, Mizzou, and others. No need to break the bank for one.

Why wouldn’t a top coach want to coach at the largest university in the country, that has great facilities, with a huge, extremely loyal and supportive alumni base with the wherewithal to fund most anything?

Well, they aren't wrong. Great coaches do want to coach at A&M in football. Right before they retire.

You are a really good football coach but you're starting to get a bit long in the tooth. That offer from A&M for an obscene amount of money so you can pad your retirement and provide for the next couple of generations of your family looks really tempting.

It is the coaching version of winning the lotto.
