Now ask yourself why

Cause Saban (moreover Jimmy Sexton - also Smart's rep) is responsible for a CFB coaching pay arms race.

If Kirby don’t reign in his roster he will be looking for the opportunity to move on.

UGA really hasn’t been a doormat since Ray Goff, and even that guy had a 10 win season. Georgia is a larger, wealthier state with more in state talent than Alabama. UGA has a larger more affluent alumni base than Alabama. Even Saban has said that UGA is the best job I the country.

What you are seeing now is what UGA would have been all along had they invested in football the way they do now.

I also don’t think Alabama drops off much at all whoever the next coach is that’s hired. Alabama will and has always invested in football because it matters immensely and Kudos to them for recognizing this.

The Bams won’t get anyone great to replace Lil’ Cream Pie. Anyone with a proven track record that could be considered a “great” hire by the fanbase won’t take the job. With a 12 team playoff, great coaches will be motivated to stay at their current school in a weaker conference and have a better chance of making the playoff and possibly win a Natty, rather than to have to go through the murderers row in the SEC and make it in. With Saban gone, the chances of a TCU-Michigan-Oregon caliber team winning a Natty becomes significantly better, and those coaches will choose to keep the momentum they’ve built where they’re at rather than try to live up to unrealistic expectations from the Bams and live in Saban’s shadow. Or those great coaches will just choose to go to the NFL and make the real money.

The only coaches who would take that job and attempt to fill Cream Pie’s shoes would be some unproven “up-and-comer” from a smaller school, or a middling coach from somewhere in the SEC (Kiffin, etc).

But no matter who they hire, I look forward to that day. Not because Saban will be gone forever, but because comparison is the thief of joy, and the entire Bammer fanbase will forever compare whoever they hire to Lil’ Cream Pie, and will forever be unhappy with every single hire made after he leaves.

Picture it now: For generations to come, each and every Bammer will seethe with disgust and hatred after every game, win or lose. “Nick woulda won by 50!” they’ll cry. “This coach can’t recroot! We only got the #14 ranked class this year!” they’ll whine. “FIRE HIS arse!” will be said more often than “Row Todd!” until the end of time. And it will be glorious to see.

The Bams always thought Nicky was a blessing. Soon they’ll realize that he was also a curse.

I don’t believe anyone thinks Bama will drop like a rock - but remember- any drop at all won’t be tolerated by the fanbase.

Meanwhile at the Barn they are putting up strip clubs right and left to keep their coaches in town.
