I would say the only way he takes that job is if he's making 5 more MIL a season
The REC will back up a dump truck to Lane's porch with more than that when L'il Nicky Satan retires....

Kiffin has stated publicly that only a fool would follow Saban. I think he'd eventually like an NFL job particularly since college FB is hot mess now with free agency and NIL.

I just happened to open this thread and turn on the radio at the very time they were talking about Kiffin, and where he would leave for. Auburn seems to always be the 1st name, but I don’t think there’s any way he leaves Ole Miss for the Plains. Not now. Even though Auburn has historically had the better program—or at least the last 40 years—it’s about as least attractive as it’s been since before the days of Bo Jackson. For anybody, but especially Kiffin.
I don’t know all the inner turmoil in the Auburn admin, but it appears there’s at least some. But even if there weren’t, he’d be going to a school in the same division, but trading Mike Leach and MSU as the in-state rival school for Nick Saban and Bama. Would trade the Vanderbilt as the permanent East opponent for Georgia, who, by the way, is less than 3 hours away on the other side. Most of us are aware of how close Georgia is to Auburn and how many Georgia players are on Auburn’s roster, but a lot of national people kinda gloss over UGA as being a recruiting problem for Auburn because they’re not in the same state.
I don’t hate Auburn. I started really watching LSU in the mid 80s, and they’ve been my favorite rival since. I love that game, and despite being on the losing end of some heartbreakers, we’ve won a lot of big games against them. Games that mattered. But that game never generated hate in me towards them, more respect and excitement to play them every year.
I say all that to say that, objectively, and with no anti-Auburn bias, even though you’ve been able to win there and win relatively recently, I think it’s the least attractive gig it’s been in my lifetime. They are in a bad spot right now with no real end in sight.
There is no chance Lane Kiffin takes that job. I’m not sure Auburn—even with all their resources and history—can attract a guy they’d even want. Cause everybody they’d want is probably already at a “better” place currently. I actually think they should probably just ride with Harsin until they’re in a better spot.
I know this thread wasn’t about Auburn, but I don’t see any way Kiffin leaves Ole Miss for Nebraska either. Like the guys on the radio just said, the jobs Kiffin would leave Ole Miss for right now is narrowing. I think he probably would have taken the LSU or Florida jobs this year, but both schools went in a different direction, so they’re out. I know he was born in Lincoln, but I don’t know how long he lived there, and we saw the disaster they just went through hiring a hometown guy. (Though that’s more that Frost just sucks).
And what’s crazy is that the money has gotten so big, that it almost doesn’t matter that much at that level. Nebraska offers him $12.5, Ole Miss counters with $10 for more years. When your net-worth is already in the tens of millions in your mid-late 40s, how much difference is $2.5 million a year at a place with less job security? He can coach at Ole Miss until he decides to retire. He’s got an ex-wife and school aged kids with and custody arrangements worked out. I’m not sure if they followed him to Oxford or are in Florida, but the logistics of him moving to Lincoln, Nebraska would be a huge headache.

I could go on, but I think quality of life matters much more to these guys than we think. There was a big difference 20 years ago between $750k and $1.5 million. But $10 and $12 after you’ve already built a healthy nest egg? I just don’t think that difference is enough to risk quality of life. Because at that level, anybody you’d want is likely already successful at a good job. Otherwise, you wouldn’t want them.
Kelly and Riley didn’t just leave for the money. It helped, but they both want to win NCs and felt they were probably maxed out where they were. And going from Norman to L.A increased Riley and his family’s quality of life. Probably Kelly’s too with how he was handcuffed at Notre Dame.
I’ve obviously gone on too long, but I think Kiffin’s future is one of the more intriguing in football. I don’t what his ambitions truly are. Does he want to win an NC? He’ll have a better shot at Ole Miss than he does now when the playoffs expand. Does he want to get back in the NFL? He’s done a pretty fantastic job of being patient and rehabbing his image, so I think more schools/teams are opening up to the idea of giving him a shot. But he’s in a spot right now where he can be really picky and wait for what he sees as a dream job. And so can’t imagine Nebraska is it.

Didn't Kelly get a raise from like $2.5 - 3 million to $9.5 million?
Yeah, he left for the fricking money.

Maybe get Ole Miss to join the NFL?

I have heard this from multiple people as well, very strange.. Does he have any ties to Nebraska? I am confused on why so many people think he is going there, also heard him going to Auburn as well.. Staying at Ole Miss or going to Auburn seem like way better jobs than Nebraska, but I would be interested to see how he did at Nebraska

Somehow I doubt it. Very, very seriously doubt it

He was born in Lincoln when his dad coached there. His dad grew up in Nebraska and was a big star at Nebraska.
Kiffin spent a lot of his formative years in that area and gradudated HS in Minnesota. So he knows what it is all about up there.
SEC fan disses Lincoln but it is not a bad place other than being freezing arse cold for six months of the year.
The "talent" in Lincoln is better than you might think. If Lane wants to chase coeds there isn't a better place than Ole Miss. But if he wants to graduate to chicks who have actually graduated... Lincoln might be the better option.
