A pair of Alabama gymnasts combined for five Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Regular Season All-America honors, the organization announced Thursday.
Luisa Blanco earned four accolades, picking up first-team honors in the all-around and on vault, along with second-team recognition on the uneven bars and the balance beam. Blanco has now totaled 20 honors for her career, breaking the program record of 18 set by Jeana Rice from 2001-04.
Gabby Gladieux earned her first career All-America honor on the floor exercise, picking up second-team recognition on the event.
In all, 81 Alabama gymnasts have combined to earn 390 All-America honors. This total includes championship All-America honors along with regular season All-America, which began in 2013.

The No. 8 Alabama gymnastics team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships, the NCAA announced Monday during the Gymnastics Selection Show.
Alabama is the No. 2 seed in the regional, with No. 1 Oklahoma the top seed. The Tide and the Sooners will be joined by host school No. 9 Michigan and No. 16 NC State as the ranked programs in the nine-team regional field.
To begin the three-round regional competition, Illinois and Ball State will compete in a play-in matchup on Wednesday, April 3, with the winner advancing to Thursday's regional semifinals.
Alabama will compete in the first semifinal session against No. 9 Michigan, Kent State and Penn State. The Crimson Tide begins the competition on the vault, rotating to the uneven bars and the balance beam before finishing out the day on the floor exercise. The meet will begin at noon CT on Thursday, April 4.
The second semifinal on Thursday features No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 16 NC State, Ohio State and the winner of Wednesday's play-in matchup between Illinois and Ball State. The session will get underway at 6 p.m.
The top two teams from each of Thursday's semifinals will advance to the NCAA Regional Finals on Saturday, April 6. From there, the top two teams of the Regional Finals will advance to the NCAA National Championships.

Bama advances out of the afternoon session. Not the best score but good enough to advance to Saturday. Michigan had disaster on the beam to fall from 1st to 3rd place (and won’t advance)

UA scored a 49.400 on the balance beam in rotation three with four straight scores of 9.9-or-higher behind the performances of Ella Burgess (9.925), Gladieux (9.900), Adams (9.900) and Blanco (9.900). Mati Waligora highlighted the Tide's final rotation with a 9.900 on the floor exercise.
Alabama and Penn State will compete in Saturday's regional final against the top two teams from the Thursday evening semifinal session featuring No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 16 NC State, Ohio State and Illinois. The second semifinal session will get underway at 6 p.m. CT.
The top two teams from Saturday's regional final will advance to the NCAA Championships.

"I am so proud of the team tonight. This is always a tough meet knowing that there's a lot on the line. The team wanted it really bad and wanted to advance to the next round, so I'm really proud of how they maintained a collective belief in each other and what our team was capable of. Starting on vault, they kept working, kept chipping away, vaulter after vaulter. They did a great job on bars of going for landings and going for the little details. As we headed to beam, I think they lit a fire after [we had a fall] and the rest of the lineup dialed in, stepped up and really delivered big performances. That was a huge moment for Ella to really carry that pressure [of performing after a fall] and focus on what she could control – she did a fantastic job in that moment. As we finished on floor, I think they finally let loose a little bit and just played gymnastics – you could really see a lot of joy and momentum building as our night finished up. Overall, I'm proud of this performance. It's always a tough round to be able to survive and advance. We didn't just survive, but we thrived and advanced, and now we're looking forward to Saturday. We're going to rest and recover so that we're ready to give it everything we have."

Great job to advance to the National Championship meet. The scores from regionals are not typically competitive enough to win at nationals - but you can’t win if you aren’t there. RTR!

UA advanced after punching its ticket with a 197.575 in the finals of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional Championships Saturday night in Crisler Center on the University of Michigan campus.
The Oklahoma Sooners edged the Tide with a 198.400 and will also advance to the national semifinals. Ohio State was third (197.200) and Penn State took fourth (197.050) to round out the regional final.
Alabama got the evening off on the uneven bars with a 49.350 as Shania Adams (9.900) and Luisa Blanco (9.925) highlighted the opening rotation with 9.900+ scores. It was Adams' second 9.9-or-higher score while competing at the Ann Arbor Regional, while Blanco calmly hit at least a 9.925 for the fifth consecutive meet.
As UA moved to the balance beam, the Tide posted a mirroring 49.350 rotation score as Adams claimed her second 9.9+ score, this time a 9.925, as the senior finished her weekend with four consecutive scores of at least a 9.9 across both the semifinal round and the regional final. Junior Lilly Hudson also earned Alabama a 9.900 score as leadoff on the event.
The Crimson Tide steamrolled its way through the floor exercise, posting its third-highest score of the season on the apparatus, a 49.650, as all five countable scores for Alabama were a 9.9-or-higher, highlighted by back-to-back 9.95s from Blanco and Hudson in the heart of the lineup.
In the final rotation, Blanco helped solidify the Tide's ticket to Fort Worth with a 9.900 on vault – her ninth time this season hitting at least a 9.9 on the apparatus.

"What a night. I am so incredibly proud of this group. They were gutsy, they were brave and they stayed present and focused on the things that they could control while taking it step-by-step, routine-by-routine, approach-after-approach to put together a really great performance. A year ago at this time, we were a great gymnastics team but mentally and emotionally, we didn't always respond the best in moments that challenged us. We took a year and really dug in, worked on our culture, worked on our mindset and worked on our mental/emotional preparation, and it's just so fulfilling to see that pay off in moments like this. This [part of the season is] never easy. There's hard moments after hard moments where you got to step in and be clutch to deliver performances that help the team keep building momentum. Overall, I'm just so proud of this group, their collective belief, their gutsy energy, their bravery and we're looking forward to getting back out there and we cannot wait to be in Fort Worth."

I predict that it will take a team at least 198.2 or higher to win the ship this year. OK and LSU will probably be in the top 2.

Agreed. Will be shocked if OU doesn’t take the title. Will be interesting to have them in the SEC next year (in both gymnastics and softball).

This year’s regional round of the NCAA gymnastics championships has been full of victories, upsets, and heartbreak. Alabama’s gymnastics team advanced out of the Ann Arbor regional to qualify for nationals, but the Crimson Tide realizes that it’s lucky to be in that position. Last year, it was one of the heartbroken teams that was sent home before Fort Worth.
“It’s just a feeling that you never want to have again,” said junior Lilly Hudson. “It lit a fire in us.” The disappointment from last year changed Alabama’s mindset. It inspired growth as individuals and growth as a team.
“It wasn’t that gymnastic-ly we weren’t ready. It was mentally and emotionally we put too much on the moment,” said head coach Ashley Priess-Johnston. So, this year, the Tide focused on controlling the controllables. Priess-Johnston acknowledged that the postseason is tough everywhere around the country, no matter who you’re going up against. But “if you focus on that, it kind of paralyzes you from just being who you are,” said Priess-Johnston. The Tide’s mindset and culture were the focus of this postseason, and that’s what made the difference.
Qualifying for nationals means so much to these gymnasts, especially after what happened last year. That early elimination was especially impactful for Luisa Blanco. “That’s the whole reason I came back for my fifth year,” Blanco said. “Every single day we’ve had that in the back of our mind and we know we want to change the story and we did that today.”
But the work isn’t done yet. Priess-Johnston said that her team will “celebrate tonight, and then we start the planning tomorrow.” Going into Fort Worth, Alabama wants to “make a statement,” the head coach said. The process that got her and her gymnasts this far is the process that they will continue at nationals in two weeks.
“Nationals is a privilege,” said Blanco. “And to just soak it all in and really be free out there, that’s what we’re looking forward to the most.”

The top two teams from each of those sessions advance to the regional final where the top two teams advance to nationals. RBR has a pretty good article on the regional/final preview. We drew 3 of the top 5 teams in the country including the clear number one. Have beaten two teams in the other bracket and had great meet against LSU in Redstick. So, tough draw.
