LSU veteran running back John Emery Jr. was not with the team during the first day of spring practice on Thursday as he needs to focus on academics, head coach Brian Kelly said.

Kelly met with the media after practice on Thursday and said the fifth-year senior has some "academic marks to hit" before he can practice, and once he meets those, they can talk about football.

Same reason he can’t hold on to the football, lack of desire, plain and simple!

Kelley’s tone it must be an effort or attendance problem. This is his last chance to shine on the field and at this rate he is not gonna get that chance.

I never saw th 5 star talent in HS. I have never seen the elite RB in College. At Destrehan he was seen because of huge OL and lots of talent on team. He had good film but nothing jumped out as 5 Star. Go watch Reggie Bush in HS go watch other 5 star HS film. Then compare Emery HS film.

With that said CBK is trying to not throw him out with the dish water like a processing coach would have done. CBK is trying to get him a degree. I would bet Emery is a few hours short. But who am I to take personal attacks on a kids intelligence as some in this thread have done.

It's not intelligence...it's memory! It's reps...plain and simple. TIME WITH MATERIAL EQUALS GRADE.

Here's the recipe to make A's.

1. Read the material
2. Then read it again with a highlight marker.
3. Then write the highlighted material down into a notebook.
4. Then read what you wrote into a recorder.
5. Then play that recording at every waking & sleeping moment until the test.

Then you make straight damn A's! It's that simple...but...that hard. It's how bad do you want it!

These kids come from failing public schools. What do u expect? They are functionally illiterate and will struggle in life if you can’t pass these bs classes athletes tend to take.

That’s bullshite. Don’t blame Destrehan High it is a good enough school. Emery is not taking care of his business it is as simple as that

No they’re not. There’s no excuse for him not doing well. None. But they aren’t 6th grade classes.

How do you have academic problems in your 5th year

Just kick the guy off the team at this point. All these guys have to do is show up to half your classes and they’ll pass you

Seriously. Tired of hearing about Emery. He's one reason our RB room has been struggling for an identity since Clyde left.

If it is not this, it is that... High maintenance guy. I'm not sure his production is worth the trouble.
