Frick that auburn record. That is Bama’s worst place to visit and it isn’t close. ...
Depending on what part of Bama you resided in, you’d also get UGA night games on WSB.
I grew up in NE Alabama and we could get the UGA, UT, Vandy, GT and sooooometimes could get the Ole Miss radio broadcast. I remember listening to the 1980 UGA-UT game when Herschel had his coming...
re: Back when the SEC was awesome

Actually it was 11:30 CST but yes. This is the ORIGINAL SEC game of the week.
ABC had a contract for the SEC but also with the SWC, Big 8 and ACC at that time. Independents such as Miami, FSU, Penn St, Notre Dame were up for grabs for ABC or CBS. TBS only showed the SEC and it was a forerunner o...
DeBoer is a good coach, but there's absolutely no reason to have him ranked #2 in the nation.
Nah, he just has the highest winning percentage of any coach in the country. I know the SEC, blah blah but a good coach is a good coach. What people were waiting for was a hire like Ray ...
re: Good Series LSU
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/12/24 at 6:54 pm
In baseball LSU is the standard like Bama football. It's becoming super apparent that NIL is evening the playing field in all sports. Bama doesn't have some huge collective in baseball so winning some of these series against the teams they have shows the potential but Alabama still has to get a lo...
re: Why do the majority say Florida football started under Spurrier…
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/12/24 at 6:41 pm
Charley Pell started to build Florida football but it never really took off until th 90's. I don't think anybody thought Spurrier would do what he did but the rise of Florida, Florida St and Miami coincided with the great Florida migration In 1950 Florida had 2.7 million residents. In 1990 Flori...

re: How did the 12 SEC teams agree on these East & West permanent rivals for over a decade?
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/9/24 at 3:07 pm
You gotta remember that in 1990 when the divisions were put together, Florida was hovering just above .500 all time and coming off a 6-6 record i 1989. . the thought of Florida winning a national title was about like Ole Miss winning one. Auburn was a much stronger program. and the two had played ...
re: Will Alabama continue their tradition of holding on every pass play in the post-Saban era?
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/8/24 at 11:59 am
Here's how it works in the SEC regarding Bama. If you lose to them, it's because the Refs cheated and the announcers were for Bama. If you win, it was a fairly called game (especially when Bama gets 17 penalties)and you liked the announcers. So, the answer to your question depends on whether yo...

No, everybody else started investing in theirs. Once upon a time only LSU and MSU had good baseball teams....
re: More whining and excuses from an old retired football coach

What did he say that wasn't correct?
He's was talking about....well, what you're doing right now.
If you guys could get past your Saban hatred you'd realize he's pretty damn spot on but that would be too mature for the avg age group here....
re: Southeastern Conference - football championships; who gets there 1st???
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/6/24 at 7:57 am
OU and Texas will easily make it before any others that haven't won it. Outside of those two I'm not sure what realistic chance South Carolina and Mizzou have and Arkie would be a long shot. Vandy has no chance in any year ever. that is one that will never happen.

re: Who is the next head football coach at Alabama in the next 1-3 years?
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/2/24 at 12:05 pm
Bama circles back around to Lanning.
There will also be coaches this year and next that will make their mark and start getting attention.
None of those names you mentioned would even get a phone call and I will add Lane Kiffin to that list, who would take the job today. Don't kid yourself....
re: 2024 Hypothetical 12 Team Playoff
Posted by TouchdownTony on 5/2/24 at 10:07 am
THat looks pretty accurate. There shouldn't be any moving of teams to avoid a rematch. Play the games and there will be upsets that you just won't be able to see coming that will inevitably set up rematches. Some teams may play each other 3 times in a season....
