per 247Sports.

#1 is no surprise -- Georgia Bulldogs.

"Limitless resources. A talent pool with massive dividends. Top to bottom synergy throughout the program. No. 1 in this ranking of best jobs is up for debate, but the road to a national championship in the expanded College Football Playoff era will go through Georgia and that's a product of Kirby Smart tossing gasoline on a program that's always been capable of hitting nuclear levels.............Always rated as one of the top college towns in the country, Athens is a beautiful setting to plant roots and reside while winning. Smart's on a great start to perhaps leave a Saban-like mark on a program that's always been successful before hitting this supernova-like heat wave over the last seven years."

Yep, it's Georgia.

The top 5 jobs.............

1. Georgia

2. Texas

3. Ohio State

4. LSU

5. Alabama

The state of Georgia has the 4th most NFL players I believe and 0 in state competition. I’d say it’s arguable but not a terrible opinion saying they’re the #1 job.

Also, how is USC not in the top 10?

With the right coach you can lock down the state of California blue chip recruits. Not to mention the tradition and appeal of having any recruit in the country going to Los Angeles for college.

From the article concerning Alabama at #5:

quote:

Imagine following Elon Musk at Tesla or Tim Cook at Apple.

Ironically, I remember people saying Tim Cook would never be able to do well following Steve Jobs.

But he has...so the article has inadvertently made a point that DeBoer MIGHT do well.

Of course, the article is an opinion-piece; there's just no way to "prove" a job is a top 10, etc.

My opinion is that USC would be a top 10, probably any where from 6-10 at this point in time.

USC is a very wealthy school with a lot of money, almost $10 billion in endowments, etc. It has a lot of donations to the athletic program, too; one of the highest amounts in the nation of any school, according to some sources (Hollywood celebrities love USC).

The writer at 247 Sports is also looking to the future.....perhaps, he feels USC's new home in the Big 10 won't be as promising as it has been in the past, etc. I dunno. But, I think 'SC is still one of the best jobs......despite California's problems, the beautiful weather and attractions, beaches, mountains and deserts right here on our doorstep has always been a mainstay attraction for anyone considering USC.

I’ve heard that if you take the Georgia HC job you get stalked by a certain message board poster who starts 36 threads a day.

I've always thought this was a silly and illogical talking point

Clemson, SC, Tennessee, Bama, Auburn, UF, and FSU are all directly bordering GA. Some of those are within a few hours' drive of Athens. Why in teh world does it matter that tech is the only "in state competition" when all the teams that regularly (used to more so than now I guess) beat us out for recruits are one state away?

I mean if you really don’t think there’s a correlation to growing up in the state and being surrounded by the largest and most popular state schools fans your entire life and staying in state to be close to family then I don’t know what to tell you. More recruits go to schools in their home state then go outside the state.

You should take a look at your roster. Even with Georgia recruiting outside the state for blue chips at its highest level of all time, the majority of your roster is from Georgia. As is with most large state schools.

I'm sold on Deboer as a coach and playcaller.

My only question on him is recruiting and player retention in the NIL era.

I think he'll be very good this upcoming season, but if he can't recruit at Saban's level or very close, Bama's talent will decrease. It might only decrease to the level of LSU, but Bama has dominated teams like LSU in terms of talent under Saban so falling to that level could cause a regression.

Deboer is good enough outside of recruiting that even if he's just average at bringing talent in, Bama will be consistently good. They just won't be consistently DOMINANT like they were under Saban.

That’s the top five. I’d just put order different…

1. LSU (Talent galore who all grow up wanting to go to here. Plus, Ed O won a natty. That alone puts you #1.)
2. Bama (by a razor thin margin because of what Saban built. Expectations aren’t for everyone.)
3. Georgia (resources, Kirby, rings, lot of out of state programs to fend off)
4. tOSU (Recruits nationally, easier path, Harbaugh’s gone)
5. UT (Resources, instate talent, plenty of NIL)

The last few Georgia cruitin classes aren’t built on in-state kids as much as I thought they’d be.
