Avoid rematches best they can or do an honest ranking?

Is it a playoff or just an expanded invitational?

Should bring back a balance of computer rankings (with transparent algorithms set and known) and human subjective polling.

Nothing is perfect, but it's harder to bitch when everyone goes into a season knowing the rules are set.

Rank them according to the methodology agreed upon and set the field, rematches or not.

They should not care about rematches. Otherwise they aren’t being objective and it calls into question the whole system.

There are rematches in basketball and baseball,

There was a rematch between Georgia and Bama in football, but it was for the championship.

Gotta put the teams somewhere.

Yeah, that sure sounds NON-biased.

you can't eliminate bias from a human poll. But, you can balance with the computer polls for a good result to mitigate that flaws in each.

The BCS formula was pretty good in the end. Just bring back a similar format and replace the coaches and Harris poll human inputs with equal weight for the committee poll.

Rematches or not should NOT be a consideration. Just rank the 11 best teams and throw in the G4/5 team at #12.

Any kind of human interaction can be biased by the following:

- favoritism toward a team/conference/coach
- dislike toward a team/conference/coach
- coaches who give the task to somebody else to fill out
- WHO has the time to watch ALL the games in order to fairly complete the poll?

ex.: Which game do you give more credit:
Game A where Team X outscores Team Y 70-0
or
Game B where Team Z wins by 1 pt. in the final seconds?

How would you do that? The conference winners won't necessarily be the top 4 teams record-wise. We could see some of the worst teams in the playoff get byes and then get reseeded in the quarterfinals.

brackets are 1 45 0

vs 23 67

put all one conference on one side of bracket or separate or honest rank

The BCS formula was pretty good in the end
E.g., Saban putting Stanford above OSU in 2011. Humans can always manipulate but the BCS and computers would be way better than the committee.

Why would you reseed during the PO?

No, they should be objective and rank teams. If it’s a rematch, so be it. No manipulation. The best team will win. Rematches are as overrated as crowd noise. Weather and traveling cross country on quick turnarounds are much more of a factor.

We need a computer picking the teams based on a BCS style formula.
