Lemonis said yesterday we have never and will never cancel a game because of RPI. Weather is supposed to be clear tonight. Dahm coming back and pitching tonight is huge for State. If he is healthy and throwing well, that is a big boost for our postseason. He was our Friday night starter and looked good in the early outings before getting injured. If the game is on the schedule play it. And win it. RPI will take care of itself. So play ball. The idea of not playing to boost your stock kind sounds of familiar does it not? The nice term used in football is “opt out.” Not sure what the baseball term is though other than “we just don’t want to play because our Momma said we had stay inside the house today.”

Just saying bad weather can provide some cover for a bad midweek game if you don’t really need to play it. Although it looks like the weather in Starkville will end up being ok and I presume they will play.

We have a system the punishes winning at times.

Option A - win the game, drop in the RPI, hurt chances of hosting which would lose tens of thousands in revenue, decrease odds of advancing.

Option B - cancel the game, have people on the interest say you’re “scared”, and don’t do any of the negative things above.

We have to stop relying on RPI or KPI so heavily. If not, then we’ll see issues like this at the end of the year.
