Dude I lived in Mississippi for 15 years and had two sons graduate from State (thank God they are Ole Miss fans). I can tell you that if you consider any “small southern diner that serves soul food, catfish or BBQ.” in Starkville good your palette is suspect at best! In fact I can’t name one restaurant that ever impressed me in that town!

I really enjoyed state’s campus but I didn’t find Starkville to be nice at all. The cotton district was pretty nice though.. Some BBQ joint had fried pimento cheese balls that I still fap to occasionally.

I think Ole Miss has the edge over state but one thing that surprised me was Davis Wade being much nicer (imo) than Vaught Hemingway. Would love to make it to a baseball series someday of course.

Completely agree. Not sure we can ever fix our piece mealed stadium. Think you would have to tear down one side and the North end zone and build it to match the West and South Endzone.

I highly recommend it. In fact I would suggest trying to hit both schools for baseball series.

I was raised in a small Texas town with nothing but other small towns within decent driving distance. We had 6 restaurants (not counting a convenience store that made tacos and burritos) and only one wasn't complete shite and it was a family owned fried chicken joint. Small towns ain't got nothing on a city of any size where you can find small town-like hole in the wall dives that can either be great or rubbish, along with a huge variety of cuisines beyond the usual Texas BBQ and TexMex, and fine dining of every type you can imagine. I'm not big on pretentious fine dining places, but some of them can be pretty mind blowingly good for a once a year thing.

Yes! Can win prizes and not money but the money goes to the Humane Society so it’s a great donation.

Oh I do like catfish but there ain’t a good plate of it to be had in Starkville. Hell, I can’t think of a good catfish joint in all of Oktibbeha county!

The fact that Arkansas considers Ole Miss one of their top rivals is hilarious.
We don’t even think about you.

Restaurant Tyler

DELTA CATFISH

Fried, pan-seared, or blackened Mississippi- raised catfish and topped off with some crawfish sauce.

With a side of cheese grits.

I’ll slap my momma for that!

I've not been to Starkville, but have always wanted to make the trip. Never bought into the narrative that it was some podunk town. Small college towns are great. And State fans are always a good time when they come to Lexington in my experiences with them.

I love Mississippi. I try to get there once a year and visit my grandparents old house and small town. I always load up on boiled peanuts and the best watermelon in the country when I go to Smith County.

I slapped your granny twice for a meal like that!

Seriously, there are folks that think Red China catfish is good and some that like Yankee catfish from O HI O or Michigan, but they just show how bad their catfish knowledge is.
