What's stopping Georgia fans from thinking "this could be our best team ever"

I'm reluctant to do it too, but I'm not exactly sure why. We could be bumping up against 15 draft picks in April 2025 and our quarterback is the Heisman Trophy betting favorite. Kirby apparently is in love with this offensive line and just about the entire DL and LB corps are coming back.

Probably has something to do with questions about the defensive line more than anything. Or at least that's my theory.

D line unproven/ not sure has anyone special. Secondary replacing 3 starters. Aside from Etienne, all other backs are unproven. Receivers a bunch of good players not sure if anyone great.

Obviously the talent is there. Everywhere. But it’s not like we have All Americans returning at every position.

I have no difficulty thinking that it could be, but I can also think of some reasons why it might not be. First is injuries. It'll be a long season and I've seen injuries tear down a very good roster. Second on my list of potential problems is the defensive secondary. Plenty of athleticism back there, but I need to see these new guys consistently tackle and cover before I'm confident against good offenses. Fortunately, they have all summer to practice against a really good offense. Third, we'll be relying on several relatively inexperienced ILB'ers, which is the most important and toughest position to master in Georgia's defense. They will make mistakes.

Offensively, mainly just stay healthy and get the OL working as a unit. Assuming Jared Wilson is ready and Earnest Green continues to make progress, can't really see any big question marks on that side.

If we had our typical schedule I'd have no problem predicting 12-0. But Bama (road) and Texas (road), in addition to Clemson (neutral) and Auburn, could be problems.

Wish we had a Nick Chubb or Sony Michel. Our backs will be good, and maybe great, but would love to have an All-American at that position again.

It’s bc I just don’t know enough about the young talent on this team. I’ll remain cautiously optimistic though.

It's impossible to believe 2024 will be the best team ever after losing Bowers and McConkey.

because 2021 and 2022 are still so recent.

Heading into 2021, we didn't know in august what we'd end up knowing in January regarding a lot of things. We had no idea Bowers woudl be what he was. We didn't know Nakobe woudl be another roquan. We didn't know Travon would go from backup player to #1 pick. Etc, etc. etc. So I fully GET why there's a lot things that COULD happen in 2024 that we simply can't see yet and don't know yet.

But I would be extremely hard pressed to think we're going to have any team for quite a while that stacks up the same as 2021/2022. Either one of those teams would likely go down as the best in school history and we had them back to back. Still really just incredible when you think about it. Addiitonally with the utterly stupid expansion it's pretty much a given we're going to lose at least 1 and likely multile games a year. The league is simply far too tough to get through without a loss anymore. And while it may not be exactly 100% fair, I think seeing a blemish or two on the resume may keep people from proclaming a team as our best ever.

The front seven, unless there's a group like that 2021 unit walking through the door that I'm unaware of

Defensive line depth scares me a bit.
