A lot of smoke that FSU (and Clemson) may have unlocked the ACC grant of rights

I watch a lot of You Tube college football related stuff and seems like everyday there’s something about FSU’s current court case to get out of the ACC grant of rights.

They seem to think their chances are good. I wonder if all that’s wishful thinking though. If it DOES work out, you can guarantee the others are all gonna want out and it’s gonna be pandemonium as to where they all go.

The Big 12 seems to think they’re going to gobble up a lot of the ACC teams but I don’t buy that.

They probably will. SEC and BIG10 will cherry pick 4-6 teams and the rest will be Big 12 bound.

Every school in the ACC wants an invite to the B10 or SEC.

The only net money drivers are FSU, Clemson and UNC.

Then you have a marginal tier of VA Tech, UVA, NC State, Miami, Pitt, Louisville, Cal, and GA Tech.

All the remaining schools (Duke, Wake Forest, BC, Syracuse, SMU, etc) are going to end up in a lower tier league.

My guess is the B10 and SEC already have feelers out and if the GOR dies it’ll all happen almost instantly.

To me the only SEC cultural fits would be Clemson, FSU, Va Tech, Louisville and UNC but who knows where the chips would land.

I sincerely hope we end up with a southern Ivy League out of all of this. People on here have called it the Magnolia League, but it just makes too much sense. Schools like Tech, UVA, Duke, Wake, Rice and Tulane don’t really want to compete in football. They want to play basketball and Olympic sports and do research. Forcing them to hangout with the football factories doesn’t help anyone and a league like that would be a major boon to the south by allowing them to focus their resources where they’re best served while building an elite academic brand globally.

Article from Kansas City paper on the Rant today about talks between SEC and Kansas. Makes sense. They are “contiguous” (Sankey’s important factor) being right above Oklahoma and beside Mizzou. Most on that thread thread hate the idea, but I like that move as I like UNC and Virginia as our top additions from the ACC. Plus, move Auburn to the ACC.

There’s no smoke that either have “unlocked” the GOR. Most of the arguments presented are relatively weak by both Clemson and FSU’s legal teams; more than anything this case will end up in federal court over jurisdiction issues

Here is a lawyers brief summary of each separate brief filed by all parties. He goes over it heavily and what the argument/response is by plaintiff/defendant

If SEC could pull...

Clemson, UNC, Duke, FSU, Louisville, Miami

It's game over. SEC will be so dominant that the other conferences will be useless. The story lines would be INSANE...

Clemson vs USC
UNC vs Duke
Florida vs FSU
Oklahoma vs Texa
Louisville vs Kentucky
Miami vs FSU
Florida vs Miami

This is my preference...a geographically coherent and contiguous mega conference.

Why do you want Duke, Louisville or Miami?

I have a degree from one of those schools so it’s not like I’m anti ACC, I’m just curious on your reasoning.

To me it’s UNC, Clemson, FSU and Va Tech.

You get the two powerhouse football schools, lock up NC and VA and everyone is roughly a cultural fit.

Since the SEC schedule is a complete mess now with no divisions, I’m ready for all this conference alignment to just be done.

Id like to see the SEC add 8 more teams, all from the ACC or elsewhere and go to 4 divisions of 6 teams. Each team plays the 5 in their division and 1 from each of the other 3 divisions for 8 conference games a year.

The divisions can be based off geography or history or whatever. Maybe even have different divisions every 1 or 2 years. Have a lottery based off past success to select the divisions. It could be a whole event like the NBA lottery.

The four division winners play 2 division playoff games and an SEC title game. These guys are pro athletes now, I don’t care about adding more games to their schedule, or whatever.

Virginia over Va Tech. We want THE state school, not the Auburns in the ACC. I guarantee you the top priorities are UNC and Virginia. Clemson and FSU after that just to make sure Florida and South Carolina have their Auburns to put up with.

UVA probably thinks themselves to elite to even consider joining the SEC.

Having worked in Charlottesville and lived nearby years ago, I can say Charlottesville or as I prefer to call it, “The People’s Republic of Charlottesville” is eerily similar to Berkeley with a very woke/weird atmosphere and off the charts arrogance. People who are even remotely affiliated with the school will brag about their affiliation. I knew a guy who was a part time janitor there and he acted like that was some kind of accomplishment (?!?!).

It’s a really good school but it’s not a good fit culturally with the SEC. They treat football as an afterthought. Huge fan support for basketball.

Sidenote-THE homeliest co-eds on the planet there. Attractive women are few and far between.

There’s no way they take UVA over Tech. Zero percent chance. As said by others, football is an afterthought for them.

Why take another program equal to Vandy? Clemson and FSU and call it a day.

UVA will add zero dollars to the SEC. F um.

UNC and Virginia feel more like Big 10 schools.

I would take VT and NC State for new footprints and then bring in FSU and Clemson.

Someone else brought up the idea of Kansas and I don't hate that idea either. They're throwing a lot more resources into football now, would just need to find one more school to make it an even number.
