This seems the most likely; Bobo stepping down to spend time with family. Take a few years off then get back into it. He should try another HC job at a small school like Mercer but he just doesn't seem to have the zeal for it. I imagine he has saved a lot of money from contracts.

But his son is on the team. It’s part of why he took the job. Bobo is our OC at least until his boy graduates

Exact same twilight career path Muschamp took

I can understand why Bobo would want to leave, but I don't understand why UGA fans would want him to leave. That's the part I still can't wrap my head around.

Talked to Asher Allen. He said he’s heard Buster Faulkner is coming back and we will recruit his son as a QB. Said Pit Boss is fed up at Arkansas and feels backstabbed by Petrino and is contemplating a return to the classic city.

That and the dropped passes. Defense has shown some issues too.

He built a house of timber

And raised a redhead son

Then they worked the land together

And prayed the rain would come

He did well with the talent they had. Had a 2nd or 3rd string QB over half this year. Made Haynes King put up numbers.

He worked under Monken and was rumored to be "the guy" if Monken ever decided to leave.

Still doesn’t say why. His GT offense didn’t set the field on fire even against lesser opponents

The fan love for Faulkner is at least partly due to the phenomenon of "concern trolling" that infests UGA message boards. If a recruit, or a current player or coach goes elsewhere (particularly to one of our "rivals"), suddenly there are cries of horror over what a great loss has been suffered by UGA football. It gets said over and over until it becomes sort of conventional wisdom, and in the process elevates the person who has left to an exalted level of talent that was never previously recognized or proven. If you go back years later and look at those "losses" in retrospect, it's about what you'd expect statistically; a few had great success elsewhere, most were average or below.

Kirby and his staff probably have enough info to know where Faulkner fits in their list of potential staff candidates, but we as fans have minimal useful info to reach informed conclusions one way or the other. Even when we convince ourselves that we know something, it's mostly just from ruminating over a variety of other people's opinions. We don't have the time, knowledge or rigor required to actually study the candidates and choose the best.

It also works the other way around when someone new comes along. "New Girl" syndrome. When there's a new girl in class, she doesn't have to be lights out prettier than every other girl, she can just be average or better, but all the boys will still be more attracted to her for a while.

This is a good take. As far as Faulkner, I'm basing it on what Tech has done vs Ga the last 3 years. The last 2 years the Tech offense was really effective vs GA and this year really effective. Faulkner does a good job with motion and formations to mask where the running play is going to be. Of course he had a really good QB with King. I think Gunner would do well in his scheme.

The timing of these rumors isn't great considering Kirby's dad passed away. I think Kirby likely takes 2 weeks off to be with his family and he will leave someone in charge of recruiting and portal activities. I would think Bobo is given a lot of responsibility in Kirby's absence.

Everyone wants Monkin, Monkin isn't available, but his understudy, Buster is, the end.... Hell I think even still lives in Bishop/Athens area.
