Jeremy Pruitt never got an NCAA violation.

Why would we just hire a secretary when we could hire a value added employee? This job pays over $100K

Executive assistants at large firms earn that. Im not talking about some $28k headcase bitch from the front desk of the local radiator shop. Someone to do all the actual coordinating, competently. Sort of like Pepper in Iron Man.

I'm just saying that we would be better off hiring some well-connected HS coach that has good relationships with other HS coaches

Explain what you mean by "well connected" in terms of a high school football coach.

Why is this important to the position?

Pruitt, McClendon, Bobo, Richt, Friend, Lilly, Ball, not well connected enough?

So when Rocker needs a plane ride to Florida on the same day Richt needs a ride to Virginia, we need a "well connected" high school coach to coordinate all that?

Or are you saying that Georgia high schools won't let our coaches come to the games and talk to players if they don't have one of their buddies running the show in BM?

"We appreciate your interest in coming to meet with our players next month, Coach McClendon. We just don't feel like our program has enough of a connection with your program. Sincerely, Random GA HS Coach. PS, Go frick Yourself"

Because the more good relationships the better. Why do you think Bama has like 15 recruiting analysts? Why do you think AU hired Columbus-Carver's HC to their support staff?

A former high school head coach can do that.

No. I'm saying that they're more likely to recommend UGA if someone they trust works there.

I have no idea why this is controversial.

If you don't understand the importance of well respected and highly connected recruiting staff, at all levels, I can't help you. But trust me, it matters. That's how Pruitt got his start at Bama.

These things are obvious. Don't be so dense.

That was Pruitt and after extended time with staff at Bama recruiting kids from Hoover HS he impressed staff members with his development of talent

So Bama hired him on as that same position and signed 2 of Bama's best recruiting classes under Saban particularly in-state

The guy just hired in that position for Bama this year is ace recruiter Tosh Lupoi after Kevin Steele was moved back to Bama's regular coaching staff as LBs coach

So Saban has used it as a position to sort of stockpile guys on the side you know or hope will be brought on staff later on

HS Coach: OK boy, I'm gonna tell you this from the bottom of my hart, because I care about you, and you and me, we real close like, right? You trust me, don't you boy?

Player: Yessah... yessah you ain't never done me wrong nah coach...

HS Coach: OK, here's my sage advice... you need to go to Alabama... you need to sign right now, matter of fact, I done fixed up your paperwork so you can enroll early!

Player: But coach, the offer from Bama isn't commitable, can I still do that? Jawja done offered me a commitable, and I always wanted to go to Jawja ....

HS Coach: Lookee here boy, we done established that I have your best interest in mind, now you go on and you hold out for Alabama now, or maybe Auburn or Clemson. I don't trust that Brian McClendon son of a bitch, he's a snake in the grass...

Player: But Coach, I really like Coach McClendon.."

HS Coach: I ain't gonna tell you again boy... I don't trust that Jawga Program, even though they never been nothin' but straight up and honest with me for the last 20 years, I just don't feel connected...

Player: Ok coach... I won't go to Jawja then.

You've asked Crow but the recruiting coordinator has a ton of jobs.

Breaks down recruits film
Contacts high school coaches regularly to check up on players
Schedules official and unofficial visits
Sets up what happens on those visits
Contacts the high school coaches to schedule UGA coaches visiting their players
Keeps up with NCAA violations and keeps us from breaking them
There are tons more but that's the gist of it.

The importance of having a former high school coach is he has to be in constant contact with the current high school coaches so you want someone who's going to have positive interactions with them. Coaches have a tight network and are funny about stuff like that. They'll open up more to you if you're one them than some desk jockey who's calling them.

What the frick are you talking about?

We're not talking about eliminating ourselves with players. We're talking about what can help.

Player: I'm not sure where I want to go. I'm looking at UGA and FSU.

Coach: I know such and such who works at UGA. He's a really good guy. I don't really know anyone at FSU though.

Player: I'm just looking for a place I'll feel comfortable.

Coach: Well I know coach such and such and I trust him. Let's go visit UGA and see how you like.

Boom, door's open.

ETA- Explain to me why you seem to be so opposed to the idea.

That all makes sense to me, lets hire 100 analysts. Let's build a pipeline of developmental coaches, utilize the great amount of coaching talent out there in the great state of Georgia, even though you can only have 9 coaches on a practice field when players are present.

I'm all about that.

I just don't get the "we need a well connected high school coach as our recruiting coordinator" schtick.

That's something I could hear Paul Johnson say.

We are UGA. We may need connections in other states, but a "well connected" HS coach in Georgia as our glorified secretary is meaningless to me.

I get the impression Deeprig never played a down of football and doesn't understand how the typical southern highschool football coach does things.
