We both have byes this week, so let's get this party started. This is the background I use year around on my phone.
Quinn is QB1, but I think Arch should get some planned snaps against OU. Thoughts?
If I am Sark, I create a set of scripted plays for both. It's the same offense, but both quarterbacks have very different skillsets. Quinn is great in the short and intermediate routes, and Arch is great with the deep ball and he is also a threat to run.
Maybe plan on using Arch for the 4th series of the game, or in goal line packages.. There is no QB controversy, why not take advantage?
With Georgia on deck, we need to win this game.

Ewers is going to start. There isn't any questions about it. Sark said he could've played against State, but the team believed Arch could get the job done and give Quinn some time to just ensure his availability for the long road to the NCG ahead.
I don't see a scenario where it makes sense to put Arch in at all if Quinn is playing. I rather him have all the snaps until it is a blow out to eliminate any errors that can be induced from the redshirt freshman in a big game against OU since this will be Quinn's 3rd start.
This game is always weird, but we should dominate on paper if our oline plays like we know they can in big games.

That's a valid point, but I do think it would be a great weapon to use as the season goes on. Perhaps it would be better to try that out against a team not named OU or GA, or to save it for a big game later in the season.
I trust Sark to figure it out.

Personally I’ve never been a fan of a QB committee. If it’s for 2 or 3 plays all game, sure. Anything more and I think you risk taking Quinn out of his rhythm. It’s Quinn’s team, if you start playing Arch more you’ll end up creating an even bigger media narrative about a “qb controversy”.
This game is typically a toss up, but I feel very confident about this years game. The team should be pissed from last year, and getting bumped back in the polls should add another chip on their shoulder.
I hope Sark has this picture up next week.

Pass. I don’t see any need for that. All that tends to do is get in one or maybe both QBs head. Quinn’s looked great basically all year. Arch seems fine as the back up. Get a big lead and then bring Arch in the 4th quarter.

quote:against other teams, I’d agree. But we need QE to knock the rust off and be fully in the flow of the game. I wouldn’t want to disrupt that by subbing. Do hope Arch comes in to hand the ball off in the 4th because we’re blowing them out so bad!

If Sark announced that Quinn is QB1 and he will get the majority of the snaps, but the plan if for Arch to play 1-2 series each half, I think it creates an advantage for Texas.
1) The other team has to prepare for both Quarterbacks, and they are different, despite the same offensive scheme.
2) Sark has the option to sit Quinn for a series each half (if needed) to change up the momentum of the game and/or allow Quinn to see the field from the sidelines as opposed to behind the OL. If Quinn is locked in and on fire, you obviously don't make a change.
3) It avoids QB controversy. It gives Sark options to use Arch without the backlash that will happen if Arch does enter the game without a huge lead.
It's just an idea. I understand the opposition to the idea, and I even agree that it could be tricky, especially if Arch is successful and Quinn is not.. It's also possible that it could negatively impact Quinn, but if handled right, it could be a nice weapon.
I trust Sark to figure it out either way. Just thinking out loud..

The great thing about having Arch as backup is the fact Sark doesn't have to change anything with the offense. Remember when he came in when Quinn went down and things looked exactly the same? Only difference is Arch is much faster and shiftier than Quinn when he has to tuck and run.

Same offense, but the defense has to defend it differently. It's a great advantage if Sark can figure out how to juggle it.
It's completely different, and I can't believe I'm saying this as the poster who first brought it up got laughed out of the building, but in some ways, it could be similar to the way Tebow was used a freshman.
Everyone knew it was Leak's team, but Tebow also played a role on the team. And everyone also knew that it would be Tebow's team down the road.
Special packages.. special formations.. special scripted plays.. maybe near the goal line, maybe just for a drive here and there.. but if done right, I truly think Sark could make it work, and it would be a nightmare to have to plan for all of it.

On paper we should win this one, but that was the case last year as well. While I'm confident we have this one, we absolutely can't come out flat like we did with MSU early on.
With the bye week between, no excuses. BloU may have one of the better defenses we've faced so far, but I'm pretty sure we'll have the best offense they've seen as well.

I agree with this. Tex/OU is a tough game and you need to have the most experienced QB in the game.
