definitely no kids. All people are in mid-late 30s. My wife and I will be in SA on thursday then Austin the rest of the trip, we're meeting 2 friends in Austin Friday at some point.

When the game is over all we're doing is getting in the car and going back to our ABNB. Hopefully we aren' sitting in standstill for hours.

Countries largest urban bat population, must see during an Austin visit if you have time.

go to Austin Garden on the East side (East Sixth). Fun outdoor bar with live music. There is a hotel rooftop bar above it that you can access if you go around the corner on East 6th that is also a lot of fun.

I suggest parking a little further away.. an extra 5 min walk might save you an hour in traffic..

another idea would be to load a cooler up with some lawn chairs in the trunk for after the game.. walk to your car, pull out the lawn chairs, and just chill for an hour or so.. this obviously depends on where you park..

Pull up Uber or Maps and see how long it is expected to get to your AirBNB once you get to the car.. and then make the choice. I wish I was going to the game, but I'm real happy I won't have to deal with the traffic after the game.. it's honestly going to be ridiculous.. The F1 crowd alone would make it nuts..

We've already got parking secured about a half mile from the stadium at a place of business near intersection of San Jacinto and Duval. I think we're pretty much locked in there.

It was suggested earlier tthat when it's over to go north on Duval up to 38th, go west on 38th to Mopac then get on that going north.

the F1 people won't really be on campus though right? Won't they be all SW of town come 10pm Saturday?

That's a solid plan. There will still be some traffic, but hopefully it isn't too bad. Good luck.

They tend to be everywhere unfortunately. It's possible they will be trying to avoid the area around DKR for the opposite reason though..

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but Spoon (Austin indie rock legends) will be playing before the game. They're actually a great band, well worth a listen while you liquor up for the stadium atmosphere.

Edit- outside the stadium, not on 6th Street.

For BBQ, another place I saw recommended elsewhere was "La BBQ". We won't even attempt Franklin's so I was just planning on terry black's but what's the deal with la bbq?

Also I see a lot of recommenations on 6th street as a cool place to hang out but, it's a pretty long street. Is there a specific area that we can/should park then walk around for a while?

La BBQ

I have never been, but the reviews that I have seen have always been great. It is also on the Top 50 BBQ list for Texas Monthly in 2021, which is a big deal. There are several others in Austin on this list as well.

There may be a more recent version of this list somewhere.

I think my wife and I may try to hit Wimberly for a bit on Friday morning on our way from SA to Austin since we can't check in to ABNB until mid afternoon anyway. We aren't going to zipline but do you have any other recommendations for Wimberly? I'm sure we can just mosey around and find touristy stuff btu didn't know if there was anything specific you may like.

Then I think we'll try to hit somehwere in Austin for BBQ for lunch.

Old Mill Store on the square.

Coming in from Wimberley, I'd suggest stopping at The Salt Lick in Driftwood. Fun atmosphere, good brisket and decent winery on the grounds.

I haven't been to La BBQ, but I've heard good things about it. I'll just say that any BBQ place in Austin that doesn't do at least one thing really well doesn't last long, so you likely can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

Austin is pretty walkable in the downtown area, if you're anywhere near the UT campus 6th Street isn't too far away.

I learned that apparently surlyhorns and tiger droppings have a rivalry. The couple people I mentioned td to both said "frick tiger droppings" Immediately lol.

Having a good time though. Everyone is friendly
