Seems like we’ve had bad luck at linebacker since 2002ish. Brian Gamble goat

Jarrett Stidham Says Texas A&M Didn't Really Recruit Him Before Transfer
quote:
"Honestly, Coach Sumlin, he didn't recruit me too hard. I probably tried to recruit myself to A&M a little bit harder," he told reporters. "Just because it was in-state, it was right down the road from where I was there in Waco. I had some family go to A&M before. Ideally, A&M was a close spot, I could see my family whenever I wanted and that kind of thing."

This was already known before he even picked Auburn so I'm not sure why it's coming up again.

Cause On Thursday (which is today), Stidham explained during his press conference at the SEC media days he wasn't heavily recruited by former A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin despite a connection to the school.

So let me get this straight, we ignore the one 5 star QB who was begging us to take him so we don't piss off the two 5 star QB's who left any way and the 4 star QB who will probably leave after this season? Yeah thanks Sumlin.

Yes but why? I don’t get why anyone would ask or why he would bring it up. Sumlin is gone and this story was something that would really only be relevant last year.

Yes, very old news. Could’ve had him in HS and when he transferred

Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray on how much he's progressed since disappointing freshman year at Texas A&M: “A lot. Being with coach Riley has a lot do with that. Nobody understands how much coaching matters until you see it.

It also helps when you don't alienate half your teammates.

I always thought Kyler was going to be a stud, and I still think so. I believe he is going to tear it up at ou. However, I would love to be wrong about this and watch him get destroyed.

Nick Harvey: At A&M we played just a couple calls
quote:
Former Texas A&M defensive back Nick Harvey transferred to South Carolina as a graduate student during the off season and he's seemingly adapted well to his new surroundings
“At first, it was real difficult because we had less calls at A&M, but now I’m getting it, getting a good grasp of everything,” the Gamecocks senior defensive back said. “I feel like I can play well in this defense.”
“We play a little bit of everything. At A&M, we played just a couple calls,” Harvey said. “Here, it’s way more calls. This defense puts the corners, nickels and safeties in the best position for them to succeed.”
When A&M didn't get pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the secondary found itself in man coverage down the field and gave up big plays. These items were part of the reason that head coach Kevin Sumlin is now a former A&M head coach and that Chavis is at Arkansas.

Arizona Football Recruiting: QB Grant Gunnell loses a Star
Sumlin's affects
quote:
Arizona Football recruiting got a bit of bad news as their coveted commit in the 2019 class, quarterback Grant Gunnell, lost his fourth star.
Arizona Football recruiting conspiracy theorists, do your worst. Months after committing to Arizona over schools like; Ohio State, UCLA, LSU and Alabama among others, highly touted quarterback Grant Gunnell dropped from four stars to three stars.
Most Wildcat fans are sure to not be all that pleased with the news, as it seems to add to a growing belief, that anytime a highly-regarded recruit chooses the Wildcats over some marquee programs, that recruit will naturally drop.
On June 6, that’s when the unthinkable happened, Gunnell committed to the Wildcats! Well, since committing to Arizona, things have gone down hill a little for Gunnell.
He struggled over the summer in a few camps, also not making the Elite 11 cut. Naturally because of those, he slid in the rankings, and pretty significantly too. However, dropping over 90 spots? That’s a bit much!

Then my last year (2015), the staff really lost control of the team. Like I said, I love Coach Sumlin, but we had all of these talented guys who would miss workouts and nothing would happen to them, where other other guys would miss and they’d be punished. As a senior looking down at these younger guys who were highly recruited come in, they really thought they could do whatever they want.

I don’t want to say names, but for instance we had this big time player who just didn’t show up to anything. Not meetings, not workouts, anything, and he got away with it. But if I were to miss, I’d be punished and would end up on the stairmaster for 45 minutes. That kind of thing was happening pretty often at certain points and a lot of the older guys were starting to get upset with it. At that point, the staff was trying to put it all on us and say that the upperclassmen needed to be the ones to hold those guys accountable, but at that point we felt like we did what we could, and that it was their turn to step in. After that was when the wheels started falling off a little bit and it got bad.

Thanks for sharing. Gotta figure we're talking about Mack here right? That actually gives me hope because you know his a55 has gotta be in gear this season.

That was my first thought, too. Any other possibilities?

ugh. that article was just confirmation of what was always suspected but I didn't know it was that pervasive.
You can't run a team that way and expect any toughness.
