Finest also fails to mention that we’re in very different weight classes.

I would last about 3 secs vs Finest. But he‘s right: he still can‘t catch me.

My Twitter timeline is showing tweets concerning Marchiol transferring to Arizona. Any truth to this?

If Elko is running a 4-2-5, I guess our two deep at LB is Alaka and Dodson starting, with Hines and Johnson helping carry the load. Wonder if he doesn't think he can make it into the rotation.

247 talking about it also, seems to have started with Hamm. Unless the coaches are forcing him out, that is one dumb decision.

He already redshirted this year, and then will have to sit out another year after the transfer unless he can get some kind of wavier.

From what I had read, he was going to be Dodson back up at Mike, would have seen a decent amount of play time.

Liucci confirmed it in a QA. So puzzling that he would follow Dumplin

Either Sumlin is a very charismatic guy who can play people like a fiddle (based on his press conferences, this ain't it)...or he has damning pictures of a lot of people that allows him to get whatever he wants (except important wins, obviously).

Can someone explain how so many people end up liking Sumlin? The dude has the shite attitude of Gregg Popovich minus the championships. How so many people put up with his a-hole attitude is beyond me.

Or he may just not mesh with Jimbo and the new staff very well, for whatever reason. I do get a sense that Jimbo is bringing a "my way or the highway" attitude with him to the job. But I have no problem with that, since the previous way wasn't exactly working.

It has nothing to do with Jimbo. It's all these recruits and boosters who fell in love with him throughout his career here. It's puzzling. On most of his media/press conferences, he came off as an a-hole. He had a snarky attitude towards a lot of the regional newspapers and it made him seem like an arse. He definitely came accross as the type of guy I wouldn't enjoy being around with.

I think some started to share that opinion towards the end of his tenure here. There’s no doubt that Sumlin is super charismatic. He did the transition to A&M very well, so it’s not surprising that he would bring a similar energy to AZ.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Sumlin was the PERFECT coach for our SEC switch. I loved Sherman for personal reasons, but he wasn't going to move the excitement needle at all, nor was his demeanor one that we needed going into some of those environments for the first time.

I know the whole "swag" aura Kevin brought rankled some, but honestly, we were a middling big12 team elevating ourselves to the big leagues. We had to manufacture confidence out of thin air, and Sumlin was the right man for that job, especially in today's social media climate.

He hit his ceiling early (probably stayed a season longer than he should have). It was what it was, but his charisma came at a perfect time for our program.

Now it's time to take the next step.

What is the LB outlook for the team this year and recruiting?

For starters, depth is a serious concern. You didn't sign a single LB and Santino Marchiol has transferred out and is heading to Arizona to follow former IMG teammate Robert Congel and Coach Sumlin and primary recruiter Noel Mazzone. That leaves Dodson, Alaka, Johnson and Hines plus a converted safety (Okeke) and some walk-ons. Needless to say, Okeke is an important piece of the depth puzzle, which is why his late spring progress turns out to be pretty encouraging. I think the starting three will be solid with Tyrel being an All-SEC candidate. The interesting part could be seeing Alaka at MIKE and Dodson playing some more OLB than we saw last year. He looked good moving around in the spring in a little more space. Hines or Johnson making pretty significant strides of the spring (Johnson was injured but will be good to go for camp) would seem to be an absolute must, right? Unless that happens, it's tough to see this group rate in the top half of the SEC.
