I’ve got newfound respect for Liucci. Covering for Sumlin as long and well as he did had to have been hard work. He’s actually really talented. Just not at anything truly valuable or moral.

CBS analyst: Sumlin's A&M teams weren't 'well prepared'

quote:

ESPN's Rece Davis, on ESPNU radio Monday, mentioned Arizona/Sumlin/Khalil Tate as his most disappointing development in college football through two weeks ... at least until he was reminded about Florida State's struggles.

On Tuesday morning, during the Full Ride show on ESPNU's SiriusXM channel, hosts Chris Childers and Rick Neuheisel talked about Sumlin during their Coaches Stock Report segment -- and it wasn't because Sumlin's stock was going up.

Said Childers: "That team looks lost, it looks bewildered ... they looked a hell of lot better with RichRod than they do with Kevin Sumlin."

quote:

Danielson transitioned into talking about Sumlin's tenure at A&M.

"This is always tough. You know, Kevin Sumlin is a friend," Danielson said.

"But I never thought they were well-prepared. I just have to be honest. I thought they were playing flaky football. I thought their fundamentals had deteriorated. They never balanced their offense with their defense. And anybody knows, in this league (SEC), you have to have a defense that travels. You have to build your offense to protect your defense. And I thought the way they were playing was never going to work."

quote:

Last week, ESPN's David Pollack gushed about the intensity of practices at A&M under Fisher as compared to under Sumlin.

By hiring Fisher we killed 2 programs (FSU and Arizona) and wounded another (Texas). Killed as in they are not going to compete until they fire their current cooach.

That's funny because Samford almost took their arse to school.

But think of all the groundbreaking scoops you got because of that insider access.

First of all, Brandon Jones is the mastermind of Texags’ success. Liucci is a fat slob who rolls out of bed at 11-noon every day (100% serious) and comes to work in sweats. Now sure, he can do what he wants. It’s his gig and he’s got the market cornered. But the guy isn’t talented in any sense of the word. Gabe, goofy mother fricker that he is, is far more articulate and works a lot harder.

Liucci’s articles would draw a C- if presented to a high school English teacher. They are painful to get through. He uses a comma every third word, has a fundamental misunderstanding of how to use parenthesis and every other sentence is a run on. He also uses goober arse terms like ‘backer and signal-caller over and over because he thinks that’s how you vary your descriptors to keep from saying linebacker and quarterback repeatedly.

I anxiously await someone implementing the magical turnover negro. It’ll just consist of Terry Crews running in front of the other team’s bench and doing this:

I had the opposite thought actually, more in line with what RK posted.

He had that much access and couldn’t see what the rest of us saw even though we weren’t the ones at practices, down on the sidelines at games, talking to recruits, etc?

We all could see there wasn’t a strong or physical culture within the program and Sumlin was more focused on “swag” and style points. But liucci defended him to the bitter end and always had mods lock or delete threads that were overly negative about him or speculation on who we could get to replace Sumlin.

If anything he is very poor at his job because he had way more access to the program than any of us and yet couldn’t see the inevitable.

You can actually hear his slovenly ways when he calls in to the texags radio to "report" on whatever. he actually sounds disheveled.

and completely agree about gabe bock. he drives me crazy sometimes because he's such a dork and lets liucci walk all over him, but you can tell he's always prepared, works hard and is a professional.

This is all news outlets for the most part. Fox News, CNN, etc. They're there to make their $$$. They do that by getting you to be excited and engaged. People engage when they feel they're right and in sports specifically, when their team is winning. If you're not winning, the closest thing is hope for the future. So, truth be damned, they're always gonna sell sunshine bc sunshine gets subs.

Jesus. Watching Arizona finish the end of this USC game is textbook sumlin & Mazzone. Man I don’t miss that.
