No doubt both UT and UF had nice recruiting classes in 2019 - Congratulations to both fanbases. However a popular hot take on messageboards and in college sports media is "Vols and Gators are 'closing the gap' on Georgia's hold on SEC East".

2019 Recruiting Class Ranks:
UGA #2
UF #9
UT #11

How can you have a worse class than UGA and still close the gap?

I think Tennessee is going to start turning things around by going 9-3 in 2019 with a 5-3 record in the SEC

so basically it's just a - "hey we are headed in the right direction so we think at some point in the future we will close the gap" kind of a feeling - not that the gap is actually closing now?

It's going to take a while(like 3 seasons or so) for the Tennessee program to come back to where Tennessee fans think it should be and a 9-3 season would be great progress

Simple. Blue Chip ratio for both is going up. Georgia has been recruiting well for three cycles, and did better for a few years before as well. So you recruit at the same, both UF and Tenn recruit better than before. Therefore closing the gap. Difference between a three and five star is much different than a four and five star in most cases outside of those incredibly rare talents that are insanely good five stars like Lawrence, Fields, Harbin, Clowney, etc

UGA talent has been better the last few years and UGA is still adding better talent to a roster that is already more talented than UF and UT. The talent gap is still increasing.

How'd you type that without inserting your "UGA is paying guys" schtick

Was it painful?

Let’s put it this way. You are a top 5 team currently. #2 classes will keep you in top 5. Tennessee is 5-7. A #11 class should put us at least a 7 or 8 win team.

Therefore you stay the same and we get better. Which means the gap is closing. Might be a big gap still. It’s more of a statement to say we are getting better than saying anything negative about Georgia.

Tennessee has zero players invited to the combine this year so I definitely believe they’re narrowing the talent differential.

There is no evidence that UGA will be a better football team in the future than they were the last 2 years. There are a dozen variables that go into performance than just raw talent. Look at LSU who steadily recruited top 5 and still lost 3-4 games per year.

QB is the most important position on the team and yours picks 3 games a year to play like arse and you have no one behind him.

OC is the most important position on the coaching staff and you promoted an in-house guy whose biggest qualification was being Jimbo's bag man.

I’d argue there is evidence but there definitely isn’t evidence we’ll be worse going forwards.

Here's how I think the SEC East will be this season

1)Georgia 10-2
2)Florida 10-2
3)Tennessee 9-3
4)Kentucky 7-5
5)South Carolina 5-7
6)Missouri 5-7
7)Vanderbilt 2-10

Florida’s class this year is very similar to recent Clemson classes, and they’ve put a significantly better product on the field than Georgia has.

Mullen is a far far better gameday coach than Kirby is, he will get more out of a top 10 class than most would from top 3 classes. God forbid he ever signs an elite QB

They’ve put out a better product on the field one out of the last two seasons.

The first team gap is probably closing some, but UGA is pulling away on depth of good players. Vols and Gators better stay healthy. It os going to be funny to watch USC beat both of them this year. Hell, gameday Dan had to use all of his tricks to come back against them this year.

What makes you think SC is going to beat Florida this year?

Serious question, why ask something you obviously think you already know, when you obviously have no intention of listening to anyone else’s opinion? Do you just like arguing? We started 8 3 stars on defense last year, against Georgia it was 9. The gap between UGa and UF will never be wider than that again. That’s your answer.
