Why isn't the baseball tournament more popular?

It's not like its just the hardcores that watch basketball. The remainder of the world get super interested in college basketball in march. This is so much more exciting.

College baseball is a regional sport and thus has regional popularity

Because it's not a major sport?

How many people do you think watch basketball? Like really sit down and watch a wednesday night game? I understand that there are office pools where karen from accounting can put ten bucks on the line and possibly win two hundred but aside from that, real sports fans should like this format much better.

Being on the terrible ESPN+ app doesn't help.

I enjoy College Baseball. For many schools however, it's just not a priority

I think fans in general overestimate interest in all sports. Take the Super Bowl, the single biggest event in this country: two out of three people you see the next day *didn’t* watch it.

The NCAA gets over 70% of its revenue from March Madness.
Less than 10 D1 baseball programs out of like 300 actually make money.

But you're comparing a tournament versus a team. I would say it's likely less than 10 teams turn a profit in basketball during the regular season.

ESPN doesn’t push it. I can’t understand why they push softball so hard but not baseball

I agree.
And I hope it stays this way, though.
It’s less easy to adulterate it like college football has become.

Ignorance. I definitely prefer watching basketball over baseball but I find both interesting and exciting most of the time. Helps that we actually win it in one of those sports.

No it isn’t

You haven't watched ESPN much lately then, have you? ESPN is more like CNN and MSNBC than a sports network. That tells you all you need to know about why softball is pushed but not baseball.
But I will say this; the women on major college softball teams are exceptional athletes. They are hitting pitches with a velocity equivalent to 90 MPH + college baseball pitch.

It is a slow paced game. It is a cerebral game. Most people do not think it is more exciting than basketball.
It doesn’t get the hype of March Madness because it isn’t big business like March Madness.
The weather in much of the country is not conducive to early spring baseball. Schools in those parts of the country generally suck. Most baseball fans in those parts of the country are fans of MLB.

It would be but most games aren't televised.

Yet it is growing in popularity. Small programs are investing more in baseball.

I enjoy college baseball. Even have season tickets for SC, but it isn't even in the same universe as March Madness when it comes to excitement.

Because fewer and fewer people like baseball in general. I’m pretty sure that women’s college basketball gets more viewers than college baseball.
I have a pretty big friend group here in Knoxville. I’d say roughly 90% actively watch and a very knowledgeable about UT football, 50% watch and are very knowledgeable about UT basketball, and I know exactly one guy that watches and occassionally goes to UT baseball games.
