If you want to use the 10 wins as the benchmark, the biggest reason for AU failure to reach it as much as others has to do with schedule. In the 80s and 90s, AU ended the season with FL, UGA and Bama. They consistantly played TN during those years and rarely had Vandy and KY on the schedule. Prior to 92, AU rarely played LSU or Ole Miss, which had it problems during those years. Use Nine games as a benchmark and see what it looks like since 82.

I don't know how you define "sustaining success" but AU was good in the 80's, 90'2, 00's and this decade as well. They've won conference championships each decade. This rivalry is so fricking ugly that it's hard for either side to even acknowledge positive things about the other side. When you're so consumed with hatred that you can't tip your hat to greatness, you might need to push away from the table.

Facts are facts. Auburn consistently underwhelms when hyped up and highly ranked before a season. Their good seasons come out of nowhere, and soon after they are mediocre to bad again.

AU's football history mainly consists of dramatic wins against Bama. It's their identity as a program. Without them AU fans would have little to identify themselves as a program other than a few stellar seasons.

All Auburn cares about is Bama. That's why they will always be little brother.

1 SEC title in a 50 year span is pretty consistent.

Being new to the SEC I don't really know the history, but I'm curious if there's a correlation between great years for Auburn and down years for Alabama?
