I think Alabama's dominance on offense with Tua offsets any advantage gained by 2009s Defense.
2019 Bamas Offense is in the same stratosphere as LSU with Tua...and LSU had the GOAT offense in CFB history.

People don't know that Mc Elroy played the NC with injured ribs, and wasn't near 100%. Texas cries about not having Colt Mc Coy. Alabama pretty much beat Texas without Mc Elroy and Julio Jones.
That's why they ran it as much as they did.
An interesting matchup would have been 2010 Alabama vs LSU. That team was hot and cold, but when they were hot, like in that bowl game vs Michigan State, they had a devastating pass rush and could really move the football on offense.
They could stink it up, like the second half vs Auburn, but that team could be very dangerous to a QB's health if they got on a roll with Marcel Dareus inside, Courtney Upshaw coming from outside and they had Donta Hightower CJ Mosley and Nico Johnson at LB, all NFL people.
Hightower would come from DE on passing downs, he still does in the League.
The secondary had Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick, Dee Milliner and Robert Lester, who picked off a ton of passes that year. They had cover people.
It would be an interesting matchup.

Isn't this the same old logic people were using to say that we weren't good enough to win it all. I guess that it is safe to say that you haven't learned anything after the fact. This statistical accomplishment impressed everyone but Ole Miss. Who still fired their coach and his staff. It must be more important how many points you score. See Ohio State vs Clemson.
