There is a back up qb for tejas making more money than the starter of the #1 seed 49ers.
Why let the NFL kill college football?
The top 25 schools generated approx $4.5b in 2022. There are over 100 more college football programs in the FBS. The NFL generated almost $19b. There's no reason why the NCAA can't compete with the NFL. The only thing the NFL had over the NCAA in the past was money. That's not the case any longer.
College Football has to evolve, so start by allowing players to enter the draft, but return to school if the don't like their draft status. Other sports do this. Why not football? Because of archaic eligibility/amateur rules? frick those rules. Where's the NFL going to get talent if not college football? The NCAA should use the leverage it has now to build the brand. Let guys play as long as they like.
The NFL is shitty anyway.
Of course guys that can go into the draft and get drafted on Day 1 will leave college, I'm not saying they won't. But don't you think Brock Purdy could've made a team pay him more than $850k? Increase his draft stock a little after another year of college? I bet barn would've taken him.
Again, there's no reason why college football can't thrive and grow. It's a superior product anyway, imo.

It looks to me like you are upset because LSU isn’t big time anymore. If that Boston Yankee of yours could actually string together a decent season you’d be back in a New York minute.

TV ratings have never been better. Nearly 18 million people watched Alabama vs UGA.
Live sports are just about the only programming on TV that has an audience and advertisers can hawk their wares. It’s also VERY inexpensive to produce compared to a sitcom or a hour long drama. What CBS and ESPN is paying is a bargain for the amount of viewers they’re getting. It’s fine from a TV standpoint. I don’t know though that with stadiums at 80% of capacity or less if it’s as entertaining on TV. The electric atmosphere of LSU UGA on a Saturday night leaps off the TV….start losing that and the product isn’t nearly as appealing.
What happened to FSU is also going to be a problem for academians and those people associated with universities who don’t particularly care for athletics anyway…and at the end of the day athletics make poverty wages compared to donations for research and academic endeavors….those people have almost all of the power even at football mills. Having a brand like FSU tarnished like it was last night won’t matter a bit but those people will use it to make the point that athletics should be scaled WAAAAAYYYYY back.

Are you saying private donors give more money via donations to universities for research than athletics generate?

At 10 pm for me. I'm done after that.

It’s my understanding that Athletics at UGA drive about $200 million in revenue a year, somewhere around 5th in the nation, while research drives about $800 million. Not just private donations but revenue driven by research. The purpose of a university is to educate, not compete in sports. MANY of the people involved in the academic side DESPISE the athletic side….and their research makes billions for the state where athletics is an entertainment

This is 2024 now. If you give money to someone, they’re going to ask for more. Get over it and do what you can afford. Nobody is giving you shite for coming up short, they just have to ask is all. S-E-C

I dropped season tickets several years ago.
I opted out building my weekends around college football.
I’ll watch if I’m home and it’s on, but if it’s not raining, I’m at the golf course.
