LSU fans are a strange bunch. There is a segment of their fanbase that act and look like carnival workers aka carnies. The corndog is the staple food of the carnival/county fair. It has nothing to do with LSU fans actually eating corndogs but is a gentle reminder that they have a large segment of circus freaks amongst them.

Funniest thing about it, is that most people love corndogs

Two main factors:
1.Being poor
2.Lots of their fans at one time in their life, worked for a traveling carnival.

Being called a freak from a Gump, or Barner, is a compliment.

“In the visitors locker room, it smells like a million rotten corndogs.” Durst said.
Wait a minute, the "visitors" locker room smelled like corndogs?
I'm pretty sure LSU doesn't use the visitors locker room.
Let me sus this out...
quote:
Clinton Durst, a former Auburn punter who played for the Tigers from 2008-2009
Check.
quote:
LSU Tigers Schedule - 2009:
Sat, Oct 24 vs Auburn, W 31-10
For Durst to have been in the visiting locker room as an Auburn player, it would've had to be in 2009.
quote:
Auburn Punting:
C. Durst 7 278 39.7 0 3 58
Check.
So, who would've been the last team to use the visitors locker room before Auburn in 2009?
quote:
Sat, Oct 10 vs #1 Florida
Interdasting, the last one to use the visitors locker room before Durst said it smelled like corndogs, was none other than:
Timmy Football!

Tim Tebow smells like corn dogs

People will say all kinds of stuff, but the real reason is because their fans smell like corndogs.

What's the story behind LSU fans and corndogs?

There are some weekend carnivals that travel though Louisiana periodically, as they do throughout the south and nation.
These troupes are from all over the country.
There are over a million LSU alumni and fans on this plantet. I have yet to meet any who meet your description.
I guess it may be what you're used to in Auburn, alabammy...

I thought this was actually funny.
I kind of like the whole corn dog thing.

According to this (based on her size) corndog loving LSU fan, it did.
Katy Perry's manager is an Ole Miss alum, so she decided to manufacture some rivalry stuff on College Game Day. But surprise for Katy, they were playing Alabama that day.
Yes it acually was lifted by an Auburn fan from Iowa and Nebraska message boards (you know - where CORN is) as a nickname they used for each oother up there./quote]
It has no relevance to LSU, which somehow makes rival fans snicker and giggle like schoolgirls when in reality, they come off looking monstrously stupid.

Personally I think the fact that it's so absurd makes it funny enough to embrace it. I mean the ONLY place in America that created it's own contribution to haute cuisine that's known for how good it's food is at the best tailgating school in America for fine food gets called corndogs because Auburn fans learned how to cut and paste from other boards?
