No, it should be called the Ohio if standard naming conventions were followed. The flow in the Ohio is greater than in the Mississippi at its confluence.

Tennessee River thanks to TVA has many huge lakes including Kentucky Lake the largest man made lake in surface area east of the Mississippi. You could include the area of Lake Barkley on the Cumberland River as they are hydraulically linked by the canal at Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The Tennessee River runs through Kentucky and Alabama as well as Tennessee. Those lakes probably make it the premier fishery.

Mississippi is the only correct answer

Calfkiller Creek in Tennessee…just for the name alone! The Wando is basically a tidal estuary in SC. I’d go with either the Pee Dee or the Edisto.

More written proof that Kentucky is the Midwest, not the South.

Why isn’t Mississippi State included in the Mississippi River?

No disrespect to the Pearl, but when you are talking about “Greatest River”, I’d bet you wouldn’t try to water ski on the mighty Mississippi. There’s the Mississippi, then there is everything else in the continental US. Absolute no-brainer on what the greatest river is.

Calfkiller Creek in Tennessee…
It’s actually Calfkiller River. Named after a Cherokee chief. Some great wade fishing on that river. There’s also a brewery named after it in Sparta.

Tennesse river and anyone who doesnt say this has clearly not spent any time on it. The limestone bluffs, the world class fishing and the mountain/hill country settings make it unbeatable.
