2021 - lost to Kirby in the Natty
2022 - missed playoffs, lost @ LSU and @ Tennessee
2023 - lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl

From the many highs of the 2010s it sure did end on a sour note the past few years. Kirby winning the National Championship 2 of the past 3 years makes it even worse. Do y’all look back on it as a bittersweet ending to a magical run and think what could have been?

The simple answer is yes. He’s the goat, but it didn’t end well.

No, the man was 70+ and retired to enjoy his huge pile of money in his remaining years. He had nothing left to prove.

Came as no surprise to reasonable people.

Not really. No. You could definitely tell by the end of 2021 that Saban had peaked the previous year, but coaches typically start to fall off a little once they hit their 70s. Be that as it may, we won the SEC in 2021 and 2023 and he retired when he realized he could no longer do the job to his high standards, just like he said he would.

He left the program in a good spot with talent on both sides of the ball and a capable coach to succeed him.

You’re asking if a 3 year stretch that would have been the greatest in Auburn history is brutal for us?

Not at all even though it entertains me that certain fan bases want it to. Most expected it to happen over the last several years. We did not want a Bowden running the ship. He left the program in great shape and at time needed someone to deal with the changing landscape he no longer wanted to. He left on his terms and am grateful for what he did to for the program.

This is how they spent his final few years:

Alabama was still really good and competing for championships. Sure, we would have love to see Alabama get another national title in one of those years, but football doesn’t always give you what you want. Saban had Alabama in championship contention right up to the end of his legendary career, and that’s all I could ask for as a Bama fan.

Has the last 3 years of losing seasons been brutal for auburn fans?

I honestly think 2023 was Saban’s best coaching job ever. Capped it off by breaking Auburn’s hearts then beating the best team in the country in the SEC Championship and snapping their 29 game win streak.

I hate Alabama as much as the next guy but last year must have been fun as frick to the “logical” Bama fan.

It all depends on what makes you happy. For example:
The barn this decade:

2020 - 6-5

2021 - 6-7

2022 - 5-7

2023 - 6-7

Meanwhile, this is how BAMA's "bittersweet" decade has gone:

2020 - 13-0 SEC Champs and NC

2021 - 13-2 SEC Champs and NC game

2022 - 11-2

2023 - 12-2 SEC Champs and Playoff

You really have to be retarded to continue to bring up these comparisons between BAMA and little brother.

Except for the curb stomping Sark and the Horns gave them in their own backyard.

Bama only had the lead for about 3 minutes the entire game.

They had no answer for Ewers and the Longhorn offense.

A stretch without a national championship or undefeated season would be the greatest in Auburn history?

Interesting.

I mean...he's 104-12 as a head coach, including a 25-3 stint at a P5 school. I'd say he's proven that he's capable. Whether or not that success continues at Alabama obviously remains to be seen.

Best consecutive 3 years? Absolutely would have been the best in Auburn football history.

Made the CFP 2 times. Your team has never sniffed it.

An SEC championship. Something your team hasn’t won in over a decade.

3 double digit win seasons in a row. Correct me if I’m wrong, but since the beginning of time I don’t think auburn has accomplished that.

Biggest lil bro thread in a while.

AU fans seem bothered that Alabama fans are grateful for what Saban has done. Sad though you forgot we are only 4 years out from a NC but that would not fit your insecure narrative.

I know it is hard for AU fans to grasp the success Saban had at UA and it must be really hard to accept that AU will never have that same success.

The reality is this. Saban has done more for UA football than any coach has at any program or ever will.

That’s a lot of words for a propping up a failed three years without a national championship.
