Since 1980.

Mayor's Trophy
Started in 1980 by then Jackson, Mississippi Mayor Dale Danks, Jr., the Mayor's Trophy game had been one of the most anticipated match-ups of the Mississippi college baseball season as it featured Ole Miss versus Mississippi State. In the first 25 editions, the game has drawn an average of 4,887 fans per game. The Mayor's Trophy series ended after the 2006 match-up and was replaced by The Governor's Cup.

Name and venue change in 2007.

Governor's Cup
With the 2007 season, the non-conference meeting between the two teams moved to Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi – which is the home to the Mississippi Braves – and was begun anew as the two teams competed for the Governor's Cup for the first time.

Lettuce not forget we have a couple of neato series coming up this weekend.

#4 Tennessee at #3 LSU
Texas A&M at #1 Texas

It has been a long time since we have seen a good ol' donnybrook in baseball.

Just throwing that out there. Not condoning it.

For whatever reason since 2022 Texas State is 5-0 vs Texas in Austin or neutral sites and 0-3 in San Marcos.

Hopefully we keep the latter trend going but it is definitely bizarro land because once upon a time we went 24 straight against them of course Garrido was our coach back then and he was a bit of a hard arse ;-)

Texas next weekend in Fayettenam is the one that is likely to get ugly and LSU @ Listeria Field is a pretty good follow on.
