I'm assuming what you mean by "college football is down" is that the "traditional powers are not on top."

let's put it this way...

if the top 10 in football were:

1. Toledo
2. Holy Cross
3. William and Mary
4. New Mexico
5. Auburn
6. Montana
7. Haiti
8. Mongolia
9. UTEP
10. North Texas

then it would suck... and even if you won it all.. really, you won nothing.

of course, it's clearly not on that level. i'm just making a point.

The way the money continues to ratchet up and the number of FBS schools continue to climb upward, expect more and more years like this.

I equate it to the WSOP. Thirty years ago, the best players truly won every year. Nowadays, with thousands of quality entrants, it's just about who the luckiest guy is on any given day.

That's why there needs to be a playoff system ASAP but TPTB will never allow it to happen.
