Would be a nice pickup.

He seems to be pretty solid.

His final year of eligibility, he is going to start wherever he transfers, otherwise he would have stayed at ND

Arkansas once (around 2000) took a "volunteer QB" off the intramural team and put him in the game.

Where do you go and learn an entirely new system after spring while having 0 practice and what not until fall camp?

If he goes to a decent school and starts, it's a pretty big black mark on the quality of players college football is producing right now.

With some spring time it would seem more reasonable, but we saw QB's like Coker for example come to Alabama with spring time and still not make it to the starting QB quality. And it wasn't because Alabama had a great QB ahead of him, we ended up starting the 5th year senior who mostly played scout team QB.

At the same time Hurts came in as an early enroll, got the spring time and managed to be a true freshman starter, so it's possible. But his work ethic was/is insane and he did have all spring.

It doesn't really seem ideal at all. I think I will laugh if it ends up being Tennessee, but I gotta believe it's going to be some G5 type team.

I don't understand the spring transfer period or why it exists.

He looked like absolute dog shite in 2018 and would have been lucky to be holding a clipboard in the NFL if that had been his final year.

I agree he is looking at G5 at best. He was expected to transfer out of ND last year but stuck around even though he was a backup, he got his degree. Only reason to transfer as a grad student when you spent 4 years as a backup is if you want to start

Highly doubt he is who the Vols are targeting, he has thrown 80 passes in college. He beat PSU and advanced ND to the title game, sure, but 80 passes is 3 games worth.

Yes

John had previously been a walkon, so he'd had a year or two of running scout team offenses under him.

Now he's been a bank VP and/or president for a while

Tennessee, they run about 5-6 plays. He will be fine.

You got shut out @ home by Alabama 29-0.

Yeah, he was fricking awesome.

For the record, Burrow has said EXACTLY the same thing before. That he would have been lucky to be holding a clipboard if not for the 2019 season.

No doubt having better coordinators helped a lot.

But the 2 seasons were night and day. It really started towards the end of 2018 after the hit against UCF(I think it was), he seemed different after that. Maybe he had some fear in him that left or something.
