The current Big 12 has won 3 national championships in the history of college football

Colorado split in 1990 with GT
BYU in 1984 by winning the Holiday Bowl
TCU in 1938
The current SEC has won 14 of the last 20.
And yet we are considering a 14 team playoff where the SEC gets 3 guaranteed bids and the Big 12 gets 2. Makes total sense. Why does the playoff need guaranteed bids at all?

I am also incredibly surprised by the rumors that the Big 12 might get two auto-bids. Why would the B1G or SEC ever agree to that?
The ACC doesn't matter so much because their autobids will get restructured when Florida State and co. leave.

Yale has 18 football national championships. Should they get preference?

Still more meaningful than 2020.

My preference is no auto bids but if we must then the ACC doesn’t bother me too much given that Clemson, FSU, and to some extent Miami are still considered power programs which recruit top 10 classes. The Big 12 will regularly not have a single program among the best 14, not to mention two.

Where is Notre Dame in this? They aren’t in a conference.
