I got this from Get The Picture, a UGA blog that deals with a lot of NCAA issues as well and The Athletic's article on the ACC, B10, and Pac 10's proposed alliance. Anyways, it lists some interested stats about the most watched games from 2015-2019. 2020 was not include for obvious reasons.

Edit: he did not include conference championship games.

Some interesting stats:
-58 games between either independents or teams from different conferences (including all five Army-Navy games played during that period)
-55 SEC-only games
-49 Big Ten-only games
-13 ACC-only games
-12 Big 12-only games
-Five Pac-12-only games
-One American Athletic Conference-only game (2017 South Florida at UCF)

The audience size ranges from massive (16,841,000 for the 2016 Michigan-Ohio State game) to just above the cutline (4,010,000 for the 2015 Louisville-Auburn game).

This is the biggest reason why they would make the alliance.
quote:

By adding Oklahoma and Texas and doing nothing else, the SEC would create more Four Million Club games. Three of the five editions of the Red River Rivalry between 2015-19 cracked the club, and conference games between Oklahoma and Texas and Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M would be likely candidates to make the club**.

And here are the teams that played the most games that drew 4 million plus viewers.

There's a glaring omission in this list. A certain team isn't there.

Andy Staples is a fricking idiot.

LINK /

I'm counting 10 "4 million club" games for Tennessee in just 2015 and 2016 and, upon a quick glance at 2017, Tennessee is absolutely higher than Michigan State/Penn State without even factoring in 2018 and 2019.

What other SEC teams did the hack shaft?

We were pretty mediocre most of those years too.

Add in 2020 and we have 3 more 4 M Club games. A&M-UF surprisingly fell short.

Amazing.

Look at all those teams in "small" TV markets (Oklahoma,Clemson,Bama,AU,ND) attracting millions of viewers.

I'd be curious where their data source comes from.

Kind of wild that Michigan is ~10 ahead of the next grouping of schools.

he it didnt count championship games, playoffs or bowls as those are different as far as pricing is concerned in tv markets.
