Pete Golding has built a beast of a defense at Ole Miss. I'm not sure why it didn't work out at Alabama but it's working out for us.

Your welcome. I hope you lost the receipt. No returns without it.

It's amazing that you still think he sucks. Simply amazing.

I don’t know what happened from his last two years at Bama to now but his playcalling has been elite this year

Lane gave him complete control. That's the difference.

"His last two years at Bama"?

From the time he became DC in 2018 to the time he left at the end of the 2022 season, Alabama had some of its statistically worst defenses under Golding. Prior to 2018, the worst Alabama had finished in total defense in the Saban Era (2007 excluded), had been fifth in 2010. In the years Golding was our DC, we finished ranked the following in total defense:

2018: #16
2019: #21
2020: #32
2021: #7
2022: #13

If anything, he got better in his last two years.

Golding's problem appeared to be he was great drawing up plays on the whiteboard during the week and gameplanning for a team, but was a garbage in-game coach when it came to communicating with his players leading to a lot of confusion and guys having no clue where to line up seconds before the snap. Saban kept him around (presumably) hoping it would all click one day and the genius prep guy could figure it out on the field too. He finally ran out of patience.

Golding also squandered one of the most talented on-paper defenses Alabama has ever fielded in 2022. Steele seemed like an immediate upgrade the following season with a lot of the same personnel and guys playing much more sound not being out of position as often.

Glad he's working out for you guys, but we're not going to pretend he wasn't complete dogshit for 90% of his career at Bama.

Good for him. They do look very solid. Nobody ever doubted his knowledge and X's and O's, it just never seemed to translate in game and he always seemed to try and overdo things or making things too tricky and complicated.

They've looked very disciplined and consistent every time I've watched them this year (outside of the end of the LSU game).

Happens alot. One coach sucks one places in the sec and then has success somewhere else. Saban likely made him do things his way. Plus there isn't too many great OLine's or QBs this season.

before I was banned from the Arkansas board, I tried to tell them we should hire Golding at Arkansas when Alabama was getting rid of him, and two or three of my stalkers there laughed at me

ETA: yall are 17th in the nation in total defense

Who caused you to lose your games, Kiffin or Golding?

offense caused Ole Miss to lose the Kentucky game, and it's a tossup on who is to blame for the LSU loss

Golding's problem at Alabama is that Alabama is full of dork travel ball type fans who think they're smarter than God

Pruitt and Smart didn't seem to have that problem.
