Maybe Pruitt was the right call.

They really didn't though.

Oh, I only watched bits and pieces, I was watching the auburn game.

I watched both. I watch it in my office. Two monitors, laptop, and TV. So get three games at once then work or forum on laptop.
Tenn has major line issues. Their RB has some fight in him after contact though. Still. Think they struggle most games this year. Pruitt has a true rebuild on his hands.

More Sports Board, dude.
ETA- oh wait, you weren't talking about the Titans? That's a really weird thing to call Vanderbilt then.

He will have his work cut out for him this year. I don’t see many wins on the schedule.

RBs showed some grit, in spite of a horrible o-line. Kinda feel for JG. He’ll be fighting for his life behind center for the rest of his UT career.
I thought the D would be better, even vs a very good WV O. They looked lost at times, and that’s on Pruitt.

I watched the 4th and goal and a few other plays and they looked improved at qb.

A coach should never be judged on their first year unless they go 0-12 like Ellis Johnson did a few years back. Saban, Carroll, Stoops, and Tressel all had really rough first years before turning their programs into powerhouses. It's the second year when a great coach really starts to make a difference.

That's not true at all. You didn't see us at the end of last season.

You can't build a home without a foundation, guys.

You really can't tell much either way. I don't have any blind faith in Pruitt and with the way the program has gone it's more likely he'll fail than succeed. To be fair to him though the roster is absolutely pathetic outside of 3-5 guys. I believe it's the worst roster Tennessee's fielded in 50 years. I think you'll struggle to find one sure fire NFL player on the roster outside of Trey Smith. Despite some Tennessee fans acting like guys like Kongbo, Kyle Phillips, Drew Richmond, etc. can play because of star ratings that were handed out 5 years ago, the fact of the matter is they are all awful football players. I predicted a 4-8 season in the preseason prediction thread and I hope I'm a win or two short come November, but I certainly wouldn't raise that bar based off yesterday's performance.
Butch was an awful coach, but he was able to win 8-9 games with a legitimate roster. He didn't go from back to back 9 win seasons to a 4-8 season because he suddenly became an even worse coach. He just lost all of the talent that he inherited/recruited in his first two classes. Those 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes are absolutely pathetic and will make things tough on Pruitt for a couple years.

TN was ranked 14th in 2016 and 17th in 2017. WV was ranked 39th in 2016 and 57th in 2017. Are you really laying the loss to WV on recruiting?

We are talking about UT though. Gave dooley less than 3 seasons, and jones 5.
So serious question though - does your point go to a good/great first season too? I think it does as it can cause false impression. Ie sumlin
Also, should the first season be used in future judgement?
We arent giving coaches enough time like we did. What I think bama is going to have issues with after saban, if dabo doesnt go there. This fan mindset wasnt around last time bama had to be in the new coach environment. Ie...UT hadnt looked for a new coach outside of the UT family in decades, so to me that is what hurt UT. Just new territory they didnt prep properly for at ALL.
