It appears that me and some of my street gang are headed to Starkville this fall for the Mizzou game with the Dawgs.
We are most likely renting a home for Friday - Sunday.
Any tips/suggestions to maximize our experience are appreciated, including tailgating, restaurants and bars, etc.

Get a room without a view.

1. Starkville is what it is. A neat little college town. Don't let people who haven't been there since the 90s or at all give you their uninformed opinion.
2. There are some decent hotels in STK but consider staying at the Pearl River Resort in nearby Choctaw. Its great for a guys weekend. Good bars, casino with Vegas-style sportsbook, and a couple of really nice golf courses if you are interested.
3. The Cotton District, right off campus, is the bar hopping scene. Bin 612, Restaurant Tyler are great restaurants. Anthonys in West Point is a high end option. I'm not a fan but Little Dooey is popular with opposing fans because Herbstreit and Corso rave about it.
4. Infrastructure is a problem. Its a small town that turns into a small city on game days. Parking downtown and riding the free shuttle into the Cotton District and on campus is the best option.

Dave's Dark Horse Tavern is one of my favorite dive bars in the world.
The Guest Room is a nice cocktail spot connected to Restaurant Tyler, which is a good dining spot.
The problem with any of the above is that Starkville is a shitshow on game days. Unless things have improved dramatically, it's hard to get around. You're going to want to book reservations when you can.

The Ole Country Bakery down the road in Brooksville is worth a short drive. Anything and Everything they have is superb.
The Noxubee Wildlife Refuge is nearby there and has some beautiful scenery and areas to explore (if you like the outdoors).
Agree about Dave’s Dark Horse Tavern. Great place to enjoy a brew and pizza etc.
Central Station Grill has good food.
You will enjoy campus on game day. Great tailgating and the Junction is one of the premier places to enjoy fun, food and fellowship.

Your post was really good until this part.
There is nothing "premier" about the junction

Actually, that quote came from one of your own LSU alums who is a good friend of mine. We went to a LSU-State game together some years back. When we got to the Junction, he was blown away. Commented that LSU had nothing even close to it. Tailgating at LSU is good but it is haphazardly placed all around campus (his words, not mine). And I have been to LSU before as well and his comment about it is accurate.
And mind you this guy is a season ticket holder at LSU who has gone to at at least one of LSU NC games (to my knowledge).
It is easily superior to Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, LSU Auburn etc. Ole Miss has the Grove and while it is nice, it is grossly overcrowded.

The Junction is packed tight, tent to tent, very controlled. It's not much more than an area everyone is corralled into.
That said, I love Starkville on game day. I don't find it to be a shite show as another poster said. Making one's way down Main/University/Barr Ave hitting the various restaurants and bars is a good time and so convenient to arriving at the stadium.
It's a great small college town.

Rules of the road are a little different down there. The Vehicle with the bigger tires goes first at stop signs.

Great college town, we always had a great time there. As mentioned, the Cotton District is a nice, fun area. The Bin is our favorite, only thing to add is be careful where you park or you'll get towed in a NY minute.

I’m SHOCKED a state fan said something negative about The Grove. Just SHOCKED.

Disagree. I've enjoyed myself there several times as an opposing fan. If you are respectful and friendly, you can go up to virtually any of the tailgates packed into the junction and score some beer and great food for free. I've found that this simple formula works wonders - walk up, say hello, compliment anything about the campus or town, then ask for recommendations about where to find something good to eat before the game. You'll have a plate of awesome food and a cold drink in your hand in less than 5 minutes. This works at most tailgates or pretty much any social situation. Be kind and courteous, and it will come back to you.

It has been over a decade since I went to a game in Starkville but getting to the junction from the east side of highway 12 took us about an hour and parking was always a nightmare if you didn't have a friend at a frat.

You better rent a place NOW. Pay the premium for downtown and your weekend will go smooth, cheaper to walk then Uber/pay to park.
Friday: Guest room under Restaurant Tyler for cocktails.
Saturday: if night game, Dave's for early lunch and brew. Just walk around Junction and anyone will visit with you and let you eat on their table. The Junction is better because of the people, not the location.

If you are a golfer see if you can stay out at old waverly or mossy oak. Two outstanding courses and they have great accommodations. May be booked up by now though
On Gameday head to the cotton district for a drink and then walk toward the stadium and check out all the tailgates. If you’re friendly someone will invite you for a drink and food. Our tailgating is severely underrated IMO.
After the game head the cotton district or downtown for a few drinks and watch sorostitutes stumble around.
To be real though our fan base is almost too nice to opposing fans. We have a lot of pride in Starkville and our school so when opposing fans come to visit we shower them with hospitality. Our fan base actually argues about this during baseball season when the loungers give food and access to their rigs to opposing fans

It’s pretty easy to tell which women are taken in Starkville. They’re the ones either branded or have a tag hanging from their ear.
