What seems more likely is

5 big conf of 16 teams - each champ gets an automatic spot in 8 team playoff.

5 smaller conferences with at least 12 teams and a champ game .. With the opportunity for an at large spot along with teams of the big 5.

Probably in about 4-5 years

In addition to the SEC network capturing the North Carolina market, here are more reasons the SEC would be smart to consider East Carolina.

quote:

Kentucky, Kansas, Okie State, UVA, South Carolina, Vandy.

Kentucky has an elite basketball school and is already in the SEC
Kansas has an elite basketball school and will fins a home in the 4
Oklahoma State is probably in but not assured
Virginia is probably in because of markets, endowments, and politics
South Carolina is already in the SEC
Vanderbilt is already in the SEC

If you are already in the B1G, PAC, or SEC you are grandfathered in and will not be kicked out. The issue will be if the ACC and B12 merge who gets kicked out.

I'm just asking which teams will be willing to give up 20m a year in TV dollars and a portion of all the major bowl game money received by the conference , you think Baylor and TCU will?

Look at the old SWC schools that got left behind. TCU was left behind once and Baylor forced their way in. Neither brings the value of market dominator or elite sports brands. Neither are big state schools and the superconferences only need 1 private school for FOIA issues. If a 4th conference emerges Notre Dame will be well ahead of Baylor and TCU combined.

Schools like Cincinnati and Uconn are already falling behind and both have about as much to offer as Baylor or TCU. Folks forget UC has an endowment around 1 billion dollars and Uconn has marketable M & W basketball.
