He’s definitely going to be the starter at that salary.

From the clips I've seen he looks like a better version of the QB we have now in Cook.

It will either be Pyne the ND transfer that looked good against Oklahoma for us.

It could be incoming former 5 star Matt Zollers but he looks to have been slightly downgraded after he almost lost his ankle in an injury at the beginning of the season.

Pribula and Payne will duel it out with Zollers likely red shirting

I honestly think that's a poor decision for Mizzou.

He might end up being good. He might not. But any school paying 1.5 million dollars for a player with 56 career passing attempts isn't spending their money well, even if they get lucky and it works out.

Cook was faster IMO, new guy looks like a stronger runner.

He's for sure starting.

When I first saw this, I assumed it was broken out over 3 years. Truly mind-boggling they paid this much for an unknown commodity.

Over $40k per career pass completion.

Sadly, when the portaling is done he'll probably look like a bargain. Best get used to it.

I mean I'm pretty well adjusted to the portal. This is just a massive overpayment. For reference, LSU got MVB from State for 1/3 of what you paid for this kid.

Dude is a Pennsylvania 3 star with minimal experience. Seems pretty high to me.

But then again Mizzou is a fairly mid tier program and their staff has really no history of developing great quarterbacks so I guess money is the other best enticement.

Wonder how much LSU would pay for an untried Ohio State backup these days.

Saying that we don't think it's very smart doesn't mean that we care that you did it.

My personal opinion is that spending lots of money on guys who haven't done much in college yet isn't a model that's going to lead to ongoing success. Yes, you might hit a home run every now and then... but teams will also get a Brock Vandagriff (who UK paid quite a bit to as a transfer) or Nico Iamaleva (who Tennessee paid quite a bit to out of high school).

Teams will do it. Sometimes they'll get a hit (I'd call Ewers a hit for Texas for example). But they'll also be a lot of misses. And just like in the NFL where a starter or early round draft pick who's getting paid a ton is hard to bench... benching your million dollar QB for a backup is also hard for coaches to do... particularly because if they do it too often boosters will stop paying millions for those players.

I think focusing on HS recruiting as best you can without going overboard on paying HS recruits, followed up by paying a lot to KEEP the guys who you hit on while using the portal mostly to fill holes with proven guys at a reasonable cost rather than unproven "prospects" at a high cost is what is going to work long term.

It lowers team animosity toward guys who're unproven getting paid more than proven guys. It lets the coaches make playing time decisions without being too beholden to "salaries". And by doing so guys believe that they CAN "wait their turn" or "earn a spot" and aren't going to portal as often due to there being reasonable hope.

So far UGA has been able to convince quite a few guys to wait their turn to play in the portal era. Obviously not everyone, but quite a number of NFL talent level players.

About the only position that hasn't happened at is WR, which is also the position we've relied on the most in the portal. I think there might be a connection there.

I think you would be better off playing a couple of mid-tier QB recruits a hundred thousand each and hoping one of them hits then paying 1.5 million for another "prospect" type player who hasn't played.

This isn't about Mizzou. I'm simply saying I think the general practice of big money for unproven players is not going to work for teams.

As I said, Tennessee did it with Nico. Kentucky did it with Vandagriff. One as a recruit, one for a transfer. Both were expensive failures. It's not that I think Pribula will fail. I just think these TYPES of decisions will be failures more often than successes in the long run and won't work out for the teams taking that approach.

I get it....I think it's crazy too but it's kinda the price of doing business now it seems. Look at the QB Duke paid for...it's crazy. The bubble is going to burst it's just a matter of when.

Apparently Mizzou was prepared to make a competitive offer but Baker didn't give them the opportunity, per the STL Post Dispatch.
