Is Kirby Smart right that it's much tougher to play and win on the road in the SEC vs other conferences?
I wonder if there's data to support this assertion.

I don't think this is kirby espousing some deep wisdom, it's kinda just common sense, IMO.

Two SEC road games in a row will kick you in the nuts.

That would certainly appear to be the case...but Kirby was only on staff for 2 seasons in another FBS conference (GA at FSU). It might mean more coming from someone who has actually coached in another P4 Conference, since they actually have experience to back up the claim.

there's not a conference outside the SEC that has 15 schools who's fans understand its their responsibility to show up and participate to effect an outcome like we do - give Vandy credit this year too so make it almost 16 -

what Northwestern allowed in the big1t8en last weekend would be grounds for expulsion from the SEC - Wrigley Field almost looked like Notre Dame Stadium a couple seasons ago when Georgia took over -

Sure it may, I guess, but it's really just common sense. Since the big10 is our main competitor let's use them. Let's take the top 5 difficult places to play in each confernece. And for goodness' sake this is purely subjective with zero effort whatseover so no need for panties to get in a bunch.

LSU/uga/bama/florida/auburn
osu/penn state/oregon/michigan/wisconsin

Let's jsut PRETEND that every one of those is exactcly equal and equally as tough as the others. Moving on from that, what would you imagine to be more difficult looking at the next handful of teams?

tennessee, texas A&M, texas, carolina
or
iowa, michigan state? purdue? indiana?

It's not even worth having to point out that even our bottom level schools (strictly from an intimidating atmosphere standpoint) are expontentially tougher than others. We have 1 school out of 16 (vandy) that is truly a joke. Everyone else is at least some level of "ok it can get kinda loud in here" and make things tough. I'm pretty sure that rutgers, maryland, minnesota, etc don't even approach the same universe as kentucky, ol emiss, etc.

And that's using the big 10! If we compared to the ACC or any other conference it'd be even more laughable.

There's not nearly as much travel in the SEC, especially these days with the new look Big 10 and ACC.

The stadiums are louder and more intimidating and the competition is better, but not playing 2 or 3 time zones away multiple times counts for something.

That's actually a very telling list of road records. Thank you for taking the time to do that.

I would say over the course of the year, 50% of the road games are lost

Other than TX, those are some ugly stats.
I think Kirby's point was partly directed at the CFP, and suggesting that the SEC is cannibalizing itself.
Also, a CYA for losing two road games.

I definitely do think, just based on casual observation, that SEC games are played in a very intimidating and aggressive environment.
