Can't really think of anyone that's come close to his dominance this season.

His stats are silly at this point. 18 Ks per 9 innings; 0.50 ERA; .100 BA (6 total hits allowed, all singles); 3 BBs in 36 IP; .143 OBP; 57.1 K%; 0.50 WHIP

Nice having an elite Friday night guy again. We've been snake bit since 2017 with Lange/Poche. 2018 Hess' transition from closer to Friday night starter was shaky, and Gilbert never recovering from his shoulder injury killed our rotatiom. Then in 2019 Hess and Cole Henry battled arm injuries all season, and Eric Walker never returned to his previous form after tearing is UCL in the 2017 CWS. 2020 was COVID. Marceaux was a quality starter in 2021 but probably not the ace LSU's has grown accustomed to. And last year the cupboard was simply bare, especially when Javin Coleman tore his UCL early in the season.

I guess we'd been spoiled having Louis Coleman, Anthony Ranuado, Kevin Gausmann, Aaron Nola, and Alex Lange all in a row (all but 1 being 1st round picks and all being future major leaguers). But it's certainly nice having another bona fide 1st round guy on Friday nights

***Also of note, Blake Burke did not win SEC Player of the week.

What's the band on his wrist? Is it just a normal health measurement band or something baseball specific?

I haven't seen one like that exactly, but its likely how he's getting the signs now.

You can see Hitt's here.

To get pitch calls faster and manage the pitch count.

Ok so it's just one of those pitchcom things. Got ya.

It looked like it had a little glass screen and I hadn't seen one of those, so that's why I was wondering.

Last year the catchers had headsets and the calls were relayed that way through the dugout. This year, they're using the wristbands like MLB has started using. Both the pitcher and catcher wear them to get the signs

I had read about the MLB changes so pitchers could call pitches and eliminate shaking off due to pitch clock stuff. Makes sense college is doing the same.

Ours looked like that in Fall/Spring ball. Guess they have "sleeker" ones they've been wearing during the season more like the MLB uses

That's wild - I hadn't seen the detailed picture of how it looks when it comes up on the screen.

Gonna be some growing pains in terms of enforcing penalties but the pace of at bats is so refreshing with pace rules.

yeah, they're definitely essential with the clocks being so strict this year and having no first warning anymore. The catchers' band looks a bit different in the big leagues where the calls aren't coming from the dugout. Looks like an old school nintendo accessory

Right, those are basically the same as last years with the push button pad. I know Scherzer had them install one on his glove this year so he could just call the entire game himself.

So does the dugout coach device send the pitch/location to both catcher and pitcher simultaneously (college)?

I heard the Astros are not happy with this development.

To my understanding yes. I think that's really the only way to do it timely with the pitch clock. Even with that, I'd estimate there have been 2-3 clock violations on the batter/pitcher per game so far this season, at least from my perspective watching all of LSU's games. I really think they need clocks visible to both the pitcher and batter if they're wanting to take such a draconian approach to enforcing the rules and probably add about 5 seconds to both clocks, but the only notes I've seen is they are requiring clocks visible to the umpires starting in 2024. I fear there are going to be a bunch of calls made in really pivotal moments causing an uproar once games start to matter more. It just hasn't gotten a ton of traction thus far with most of the games being blowouts against bad teams.

Yep, especially as each pitch becomes more high stress and situational stuff is more prevalent (which it of course isn't when it's 6-1 in the 3rd already).

He gets my vote for most impressive player so far. He's not consistently at 99, but he gets up there too.

Yeah baseball really isn't made for the HUNH or anything of the sort. That said, watching the Ags last season has me on board for the clock.

And I am jealous as hell because I wish we worked pitchers like A&M does.

Yeah he looked pretty good vs what I thought was a really good Miami lineup. Especially after having TJ surgery last year.
