Honestly haven’t really kept up with any roster/coaching changes since last season outside of LSU, what are Ole Miss and State fans expecting from your respective teams this year?

Eta: rather than start a new thread, It will be kinda strange watching Paul Mainieri as USC’s coach this season. Curious to see how he does there

State has a decent lineup, but our entire starting rotation looks like good Sunday guys. Friday nights are going to be a challenge for the Bulldogs in this league.

A few pundits have State in Omaha. I would call it a successful season if we can get a home regional. I just don't think we have the starting pitching and we aren't going to be able to score 8-10 runs every night in the SEC.

Bianco might be headed for early retirement if he doesn't get back to tourney this season

Lemonis did a much better job last season so maybe the new pitching coach will continue to shine

Posted this in another thread, but here's a summary. TLDR: State is a complete unknown. New team, who dis?

quote:

State is certainly getting extra love in the rankings just for clicks.

Team could be good, but way too many unknowns.

We made a quick exit in regionals last year, and lost our three best hitters (the only starters that hit over 0.300 last year).

70% of our homeruns are gone.

Friday and Saturday night starters gone.

Our four highest inning RP's are gone, so we're returning I think less than 30% of innings pitched last year.

Too many unknowns for us to be ranked. We might have some studs start clicking and be top tier (Hunter Hines, Ace Reese, Mikhai Grant all have the raw talent to be in the All SEC/All American discussion at years end). We could also have a 2023 repeat and be bottom of the barrel.

Our season hinges on Elliot returning to form, if he does we will have a chance every weekend, if not could be Bianco’s last season.

Is Lemonis still on the hotseat with fans or did he buy himself some time with last season?

Bubbly. Around .500 in conference play. Hoping for better than that but we could have a repeat of last year.

Oh he's on the hot seat with fans for sure.

He's got a longer leash from the admin, any postseason play probably gets him another year. But fans will likely be calling for him if we don't host a regional this year.

I think he's a good coach, but the dude is by all accounts a lazy, terrible recruiter. And it shows, he has gotten wrecked by the competition for all of his major portal targets.

Starting pitching should be improved, and I don't see how we could be possibly any worse defensively. The gigantic question mark is if we will have any offense at all. But we'll certainly find out today opening up against #12 Arizona. Elliot will be starting, so great chance to see how he is doing after surgery and a year off.

I don't hate that State is shaking the rust off with Manhattan, but certainly more exciting to be a Rebel today. Coming in hot with that opening weekend tournament.

If the last three seasons are any indication, Ole Miss will lose a regional final at Charlottesville.

Well three seasons ago we won it all.

And the last two seasons we've been absolutely atrocious.

So I'm not sure what you're going for here. But we have almost no shot of making a regional. So losing in a regional final would be a vast over performance for this team.

We're picked to finish 15th in the conference

Since 2022, you've basically done what State did in the previous year. And State....

Okay, nevermind.

P.S. You will be in a regional.
