Are you sure he cares about how much taxes he will be paying next season? He wanted to be back in California. He made it known that he is happy and not worried about money. On the other hand Tennessee might not get a transfer quarterback to be a starter or a backup. That is really tough for Tennessee and Heupel.

Why is all of this a big deal? He wanted to go back to California. That is his choice and business.

In what world is going to UCLA easier competition? The BIG has won the last 2 Natties and has proven they beat the SEC in the playoffs. You guys are still living in the past and believing the polls are accurate.

Tennessee’s schedule this coming season is a joke so this idea that playing in a major sports market for the best conference in the country is going to hurt this QB is just funny stuff.

How so?

1099 means you are responsible for 100% of your taxes while a W-2 employee it's only 50%.

His state taxes will be deductions against his federal obligation.

He will owe a lot of money but most of it will be to CA if he's smart

Right, but SALT will only impact that deduction. Like I said, everything else he does is a loss under his LLC.

His schedule at UCLA this year is harder than Tennessee’s schedule, then factor in UCLA has a much worse surrounding roster than Vols.

He’s going to have a rough go of it

Nico is doing what is best for himself.

What's best for Nico was having the self-awareness to know that he wasn't worth the $4M Tennessee was going to pay him & working his @$$ off to have a great Junior year...Instead he got greedy and has become the poster child for everything wrong with NIL.

What an idiot, both you & Nico

The B1G is not better than the SEC. Last year they were the best conference top to bottom, I don’t think they were in 2023 even though Michigan won the title that year

But the UCLA schedule part is undeniably harder than Vols this year.

They play 3 teams who made the playoffs year, 2 of which on the road
Their mid tier difficulty games are USC, Washington, Nebraska.

Schedule has total of 10 P4 teams, as well as a road game at UNLV which was the 2nd best G5 team last year and now has Mullen at HC

Meanwhile Vols play the 6 worst teams in the SEC and 3 cupcakes

Maybe Nico is counting on getting to rack up garbage time stats? Because on paper it looks like he is winning 3-4 games

SALT (state and local tax) deductions are limited to $10,000.

He will be in the 37% federal bracket, plus his CA state taxes, plus his self-employment taxes.

Death and taxes...

Not really. He’ll still be playing for a P5 program and will likely have even better stats due to playing against weaker competition.
Funny you'd admit that, as an Ohio State fan.

You do realize UCLA is in the Big 10, right?

He made his decision and that is his business.

You say this like he picked between making 2.4m at Tenn and 1.whatever at UCLA. He didnt.

The only decision he made was to try and get more money out of Tenn.

Getting dropped by Tenn
Settling on UCLA
Taking what they could give him

Those were not decisions that he ultimately made. The circumstances made for him.

Taking an outright mistake someone caused for themselves and saying "he made a decision and therefore it was whats best for him" is an illogical take on it.

One positive for him is that he doesn't have to wear orange anymore and listen to Rocky Top.

Number I saw on X was $1.75 million, anyone heard any different? It’s a cut but I don’t see he and his posse having to take any vows of poverty.

For you cynics out there this proves he DID want to play closer to home, I mean why else would he accept less money than his previous deal?
