Wow.

Even though the 2020 NFL draft class features a number of notable names at quarterback, the actual quality of those players is a subject of great debate among professional scouts and executives.

Per ESPN.com, one NFL scout called the 2020 quarterback class "not good overall," and it was noted LSU's Joe Burrow is the only consensus "franchise" player in the group.

quote:

Tuna Tagovailoa gave at least one scout concerns beyond the dislocated hip he suffered Nov. 16 against Mississippi State.

"He's smart, he's got a good arm," the scout said. "But after that great performance in the title game as a freshman (against Georgia), he hasn't been as good in the big games. And he might not have that kind of talent around him at the receiver position."

Tagovailoa didn't have a great completion percentage this season against LSU (21-of-40 passing), but he did throw for 418 yards and four touchdowns in Alabana's 46-41 loss. He was shaky in last year's title game loss to Clemson with two interceptions in a 44-16 defeat.

quote:

Oregon's Justin Herbert got a mostly positive review from a scout:

"We did a lot of work on him obviously during the college football season. I didn't hear a lot of complaints about his ability."

Burrow seems like the only known quantity in this class right now. He is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals coming off a Heisman-winning season at LSU.

I mean no hate to Tua but you can obviously see why some people have doubts. He's an insane player and if he can stay healthy in the NFL, he should have a fantastic career.

It's just that in the 2 years he was a starter, he had what? Like 2-3 major injuries. And it could just be the worst luck.

I do hope he does well in the NFL though.

When was the last time a 1st overall QB worked out long-term?

Additional info:
Drew Brees: 2nd round
Tom Brady: 6th round
Aaron Rodgers: Late 1st round
Russell Wilson: 4th round
Kirk Cousins: 4th round

Recent overall 1st pick QBs:

Kyler Murray - unlikely to workout
Baker Mayfield - not going to workout
Jameis Winston - LOL
Andrew Luck - flaked out
Jared Goff - Jury is out, definitely not a hall of famer
Cam Newton - good, but probably not a hall of famer
Sam Bradford - Sacking groceries somewhere
Matthew Stafford - Good QB
Jamarcus Russell - at a buffet somewhere in south Louisiana
Alex Smith - selling insurance somewhere in California

You used to be such a wonderful contributor to the gaming board, Bill. What happened to all the talk of Zelda mods and release hype :( We miss you. Even if you do have a small affinity for Ubisoft

When was the last time a #1 QB pick got an extra game to pad stats and played the defenses Burrow did (before you start trying to hype the defenses LSU played, look at the offenses they went against) ?

BJ Symons (who?) threw for 52 in 13 games (same TD per game as Burrel) in 2003. He's probably living under a freeway in Lubbock right now.

None outside of Auburn played a good offense. UGA spent all year playing against backup QB and an overrated ND team. Bama didn't play anyone. Clemson didn't play anyone but OSU who didn't play anyone.

Shame the Bengals are the "franchise" that no QB is fixing.
