My trip to Missouri for the game

I really enjoyed my trip to Mizzou and wanted to write a few things about the trip and the game.
Pros:
- Mizzou fans! Awesome group of fans. Very hospitable and friendly. Even the college students. I had great chats with different Mizzou fans from all ages and demographics, even as we were all drunk in bars downtown Saturday night. We had a blast. I’ll be making this trip again the next time we play in Columbia, which will probably be in 10 years or something.
- obviously as an LSU fan, coming away with a W was great. Jayden Daniels was impressive. Our defense still is… bad… but at least they didn’t look as lost as they did vs. Ole Miss. Cook and Burden made plays even when we had tight coverage. But our D still has a long way to go.
Cons
- The refs… for both teams. I’ve never seen so many egregious and just flat out wrong calls. I had to text with people watching the game on TV just to make sure I was seeing things correctly. It was an embarrassment.
This isn’t a “con” necessarily, but I was a little let down at the lack of pageantry for the gameday experience. I travel to watch college football games all over, and I didn’t really see anything going on before or during the game that seems steeped in tradition and adds to the beautiful uniqueness of college football. There’s a chance I just missed it. I liked the two parachutes and the helicopter flyover. But something was missing overall.
But back to the good stuff. Great town (thanks for the recommendations on here, we ate at Booches, went out to different bars), great people, great game, great weekend.

Well said! I enjoyed my trip as well. Met a lot of Mizzou fans and all were awesome!

Did you do the reverse piss bomb? Meaning, piss bomb them in their home stadium. That would be hot AF.

Glad you had a good time. Mizzou folk are mostly well behaved.
Unless you are Kansas or Nebraska.

I've heard great things about their fans there, but have heard the gameday environment leaves a lot to be desired.

Glad you enjoyed the visit! Columbia is a cool city, especially the downtown area and campus. We are midwestern nice and generally social and proud of our university.
I get what you’re saying about the pageantry when compared against other SEC schools. We used to have a rowdy tailgating scene in the 80s and 90s at a place called Reactor Field, but the powers that be ended it.
Also the early 11am starts are killing us at home. Night game environments are the best obviously. It allows everyone from STL and KC to get fully saturated and loud. Can’t wait to visit BR sometime in the future. Good luck rest of the season.

There was live music at a bar Saturday night. At one point the band played Mr. Brightside and I joined in on the “frick KU” chant with everyone.

Damn, that's what that means? I thought it meant throwing a piss bomb in my own face. :(

Makes sense. Tiger Stadium isn’t nearly as impressive for 11am games, either

I didn't know they played day games at Tiger Stadium

My man
I had some LSU fans chanting MIZ with me at the game because they thought it was fun

We are midwestern nice
You know, I never knew what this meant until I recently had to spend a couple of months in Cincinnati. My daughter was having a big surgery at Cincinatti Childrens. All I can say is the people there blew my mind with their kindness and sincerity. And their sports knowledge was second to none. We were in a city that we knew no one and I never felt like I never met a stranger. I realized this must just be how freaking nice midwesterners are lol. People in the south are nice, but sometimes you wonder if it’s genuine or not. You could tell this was.

Yeah, it got pretty loud, especially for certain parts of the second half. Not much sustained noise, but it had its peaks.
I was referring more to pre-game festivities, on-field traditions that get the fan base going, etc. I didn’t see much of that, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it didn’t happen.
We definitely had a blast and will be going back

No one’s pre-game festivities are great for an 11 kickoff. Can’t fault them for that.

I think Mizzou people are good people and far more similar to us than uta tejas fæg§.

CoMo is a lot like Fayetteville in that its a good place to visit but even better place to live. Really nice area, lots to see and do, good healthcare... it also lands in that sweet spot in terms of population.
It has enough people that everything you need is going to be there, but not so many people you feel stuck in a big city.
A really under rated college town IMHO.

For all the shite we take around here, it’s always refreshing to see a thread like this one.
Glad to hear you enjoyed CoMo, OP. I think your analysis is spot on with my experiences there over the years.
