Missouri men's basketball assistant coach David "Dickey" Nutt received some unfortunate news as he was diagnosed with cancer.
The 64-year-old broke the news on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday, but gave encouraging words as well:
"After a recent checkup, I was diagnosed with cancer and will begin chemotherapy treatment in Columbia early next week," Nutt writes. "I have a great team of family, friends colleagues, student-athletes and doctors surrounding me and since it is believed to be found very early, we are optimistic that I will make a full recovery. I want to encourage everyone to get regular screenings for early detection and to get educated on potential risks and warning signs. I look forward to returning to Mizzou basketball and will be cheering the team on and scouting opponents until then. MIZ!" —David "Dickey" Nutt.

He's in for a rough haul, especially while undergoing chemo. Great that he has such a strong support group around him.

He's right in that early detection is key.
With my cancer, I was lucky a doctor noticed a dropping iron level and got me in to see my oncologist the same week. I likely would have died otherwise.
Cancer treatment sucks though as it really does a number on you. After 3 years of on again/off again chemo and several surgeries, I'm a shell of what I was physically before. But I'm alive and about to see my kid graduate from high school. I'm lucky I have a "brain job" where I work at a computer rather than a more physical based career. I can't imagine going through chemo while holding down a job like that.

Saw that. My grandpa used to sit and talk to him at baseball games at Cape Girardeau. Hope he beats it.

All of the Nutt's became coaches. Amazingly, they were all probably better at hoops than they were at football.
Very interesting story of all the boys being raised at the Arkansas school for the blind and deaf.
